Horsebox/lorry sat nav

Quickie question after having to squeeeeeeeeze through a lane yesterday :(....

Who has a sat nav that is specifically for lorries 7.5 tonne and above and what do you have? My phone navigation is very good but doesn't have a 'lorry' option. I'd like one that also receives up to the minute traffic news too.

I use Co Pilot on my phone - set it to Camper van. Although not technically a 7.5t, there is also the option of setting whether to avoid or head for B roads etc on there. Have found it pretty good - quick at rescheduling routes in case of wrong turn etc, and pretty accurate on time and fuel costs.
 
hate to sound old fashioned here but i swore by the truckers road atlas, it has height weight and width restrictions...a lot of truckers still get caught out purely because they are using sat nav!
 
None of them are perfect, as we discovered to our cost the first time we went out blindly trusting that as it knew our dimensions we would be fine. They won't send you down roads that have weight restrictions, or under bridges that are too low, but if the road has no restriction they might just send you down it, even if it's so small you'll end up scraping the sides of your lovely shiny new lorry....oops.

I tried one that was highly rated on the web (forgotten the name) and sent it back as it was less than useless, now use the truck Tom Tom and it's really good. We also check on a phone/google to see if the route looks suitable first as I think it's sensible to be a bit suspicious even if it's supposed to know you're in a massive great big truck.
 
I have the truck tom tom and love it. A hgv recovery chap said he used google maps on street view so he could actually see what the roads looked like
 
The trucknetuk site has loads of threads about this - no need to join to see them

Remember not to place it on the screen where the wipers clear it as that is illegal

This - we check any unfamiliar routes out on street view first to see what route is suitable and then use gmaps navigation on our phone whilst driving based on route we found (I navigate using the phone while OH drives).
 
Thanks for all the replies :). I know the best truck routes to a lot of venues near us but I have a few further afield and that can be a bit worrying....will have a browse of some of the above :) :)
 
I used the snooper truck sat nab and could add the exact dimensions. A few years back but it was good. I think the tom tom truck gets good reviews generally. I've had similar experiences squeezing down some country lanes, and spending far too long on roundabouts when the longer but straighter route would have been better! Have a 3.5t now so I tend to rely on google maps, but that can sometimes send you slightly off course for a lorry!
