I've the opportunity of geting a nice 7.5t horsebox on a MAN chassis. I don't see as many of these, mainly Iveco & Daf. Has anyone any experience of MAN positive or negative please?

Great truck. Soild, reliable and well built chassis -parts are easily accessible, we dont build on our 7.5 tonners MAN any longer as they are around 300 kilos heavier than daf or iveco chassis - and reduces our payload capacities.

Pop in on a weighbridge. Good luck x

I contacted the seller regarding the ulw & was given the following information off the plating cert:-
gross 7.5t
train 11000kg
axle 1 3200kg
axle 2 5600kg

Will that mean that the ulw is 5600 kgs? leaving me 1900kg of payload? I'm new to lorries so finding somethings difficult to grasp....... can anyone help??????

Ive recently bought a lorry and was told MAN is the best by a diesel mechanic. I drove one and it was lovely, just like a car. I was told DAF next, then IVECO mainly because they need moving as the brakes can sieze up if left to stand. I bought an IVECO but only because thats what the horsebox builder chose for me. Its great, gears are a bit stiff to change but Im told this is normal for them and you get used to it. Ive only drove it a couple of times and I feel used to it already.

i have had my MAN 8153 for 7 years now.

the only mechanical faults ive had in that time are the gear linkage and a new exhaust - hardly bank breaking to fix.
it has NEVER not started in all that time and is fantastic with hills even when fully loaded.

it is a breath of fresh air compared to my old cargo!

Completely agree with Louby.

I had a Ford Cargo for years then transferred the body to a Man 8163 chassis 2 years ago. What a difference in the driving and overall 'pulling' power! It goes up hills in 4th/5th gear with my 17hh 650KG horse in the back no problem at all - would have been in 3rd in the cargo & struggling!!

Agree with all the above & definitely recommend.

I cant knock the Iveco for pulling power, it cruises up hills in 4th, not used 5th yet

and they are cheaper to buy. Its a 70 something or other (model). The guy who picked it said they are fantastic on the motorway.
