So have been looking all over but can't find a Horsebox I want to buy not even anything I remotely like !

Have decided I'll need to go to a builder. Does anyone have an opinion on Kent bros, high bury horseboxes or minster horseboxes ? Anyone I should avoid ? Many thanks

It depends what you are after.....

Do you want 3.5 ton, 7.5 ton or HGV? Without living or with day living or more comfortable living? What horses do you want to carry? There are loads of builders out there & some are better with one build than another so you need to give a few more details with your question. :)

woo thanks for everyones reply

budget is around 25k - i want a 7.5 ton take 2x15.2 and 1x 12.2 so 2 horses and a pony. would like a good standard living, nothing flash, seating and a microwave and a hob. would like cctv/reversing camera a shower and a loo. not bothered by leather or flashy interiors. Would look at anything from year 2000 up with less than 150k miles. would possibly stretch to just under 30 if my box sells soon ( 1990 VW LT50 )

You have to be careful on weight when you want to carry 3, even if they are relatively small as you have mentioned. Unless realy lightweight materials are used a living area can add tremendous weight to the lorry & obviously greatly increase the ulw.

Equitrek have a lightweight 7.5 ton, as do Kevin Parker (The Helios) & Tristar also are lightweight. You can also pick a lightweight chassis, Isuzu 7.5 ton are one of the lightest & any build on that will give good payload. You should be able to get well in excess of 2 ton payload. Mercedes & Man, although good chassis are some of the heaviest.

I have a Tristar on a 7.5 ton Daf chassis & with living, generator etc I still have just over 1.9 tons of payload.

With a budget of £25-30k you should pick up a real nice lorry. :)

you would get a nice second hand Helios for your budget that can carry three.

our Helios can carry three 16.2hh horses and still have weigour to spare . our payload is 2.2T (with a quarter tank of diesel) but we ended up with a longer chassis so the final weight was higher

Gazeley Horse boxes totally recommend them. David was the works manager at Oakley for 35 years before setting himself up a few years ago.

I would defiantly not recommend Gazeley! My boss paid £140,000 for them to build him a luxury 7.5 tonne Lorry stalled for two & it weighs 7.1 tonne unladen!! They only told him this once he had paid the money!

Equestrivan Horseboxes are very good :-)

Really??

After sales is rather poor................never did get the cargo net that was supposed to have been fitted prior to collection, was promised it would be sent on and then later promised it they would fit when in the area.............year on and not holding my breath!

I've just brought a 'second hand' one made by east Anglian horseboxes (essex) paid peanuts compared to your budget but think previous owners paid near your budget for it as a new build.

taken it in for some quotes on repairs (usual wear and tear stuff) and getting VERY positive feedback on the quality of the build. Apart from some paint touch ups/minor rust treatment impressed with how its stood the test of time.

I would be very reluctant to have one built ,I would prefer to see and buy a finished lorry
see how its built and see it on a weighbridge However I did look a a few before a friend bought and have built a couple of diy lorrys myself , if it was about max payload and basic I would be heading to tristar if it was luxury I would be looking at kevin parker or money no object oakley for a HGV perhaps ...

Thanks everyone - this is a really old thread - not sure why its been brought up again!

In any case i picked up my new horsebox in march of last year and totally in love with it :)

sorry beardy youre having so many problems :(
