Hi all,

Have had my eyes open for a nice 7.5 tonne to upgrade to from my 3.5 tonne (have been looking for around a year now but am in no great rush)

As ive had a bit of time this morning i've been trawling through the sites looking at bits and pieces but prices just vary so so much! Ive found a super looking (although probs not great in the flesh) 54 plate DAF for 17,500 which I thought was very reasonable and then scroll down the page to find a 1994 Whittaker for 22,000?!

So if anybody is bored and fancies doing some searching I have got upto £18,000 ish to spend, pref short wheel base 7.5 tonne, tilt cab preferable. Other than that I am fairly easy...

Also if anybody has any advice re chassis, engines etc. I would really like to hear from you.

Thanks all xxx

You're paying for the name and the quality of the build. I chose to go for a well known name and a good quality of build whereas for the money I could have bought a chassis fifteen years newer with a brand new build on. It's just that I've looked at a lot of horseboxes now and found that in many cases if you buy a cheap conversion after a couple of years (or a couple of months in one case) it's all looking very tired and falling to bits.

As they say, you pays your money and you takes your choice.

Conventional wisdom says choose a tilt cab and make sure that you get (and understand) a weight certificate. Also be aware that the annual VOSA test pays no attention to the safety of the horse area at all so if you are not confident of checking floor and ramp take someone along who can do that for you.

Agree with Hic- take someone with you to examine the box mechanically and horse wise. Ive got a box that has cost me a fortune in repair bills because I didnt get someone to check it over first.
