I am thinking of taking my horsebox on a ferry to Southern Ireland to go to a sale. Does anyone know how I can find out about options? I think that ferries go from Swansea to Cork which would be ideal. I've been trying to research online but if I do find one there doesn't seem to be a setting for a HGV lorry-type vehicle - only cars/vans! I know the transporters obviously do this with their massive horseboxes! Any info? Many thanks

go with irish ferries,

pembroke to rosslare is a good crossing..

you will need to ring them to book a lorry on, it's £34.00 per metre, £10.40 fuel surcharge plus VAT...

don't forget, you'll need nerves of steel, because they seal the hold, so no returning to check on the horses whilst at sea!!

There is a ferry that goes from Pembroke to Rosslare, can't remember which one. But, I'd take the shortest crossing possible and do the rest by road - Holyhead/Dublin is by far the shortest. Cork/Swansea takes forever - or at least thats how it feels.

Yes I suppose I was just thinking about where Cork was loacted in relation to the sales but as you say probably better to take a short ferry trip and the rest by road.

The two main sales are in Kilkenny & Cavan so Roslare would be easiest for Kilkenny and Dublin for Cavan!

No idea on English geography I'm afraid

You can sail with either Irish Ferries or Stena from Holyhead to Dublin and Irish Ferries from Pembroke to Rosslare or Stena Fishguard to Rosslare.

Irish Ferries to Dublin have sailings at 14.10 HRS and 02:40 hours. Stena similar times.
Irish Ferries from Pembroke 14:30 Hrs and 02:40 Hrs. Stena from Fishguard similar times.

You will have to pay for "extra driver" if you have another person travelling with you - so don't forget to add this to your costs.

If you want to book a lorry on you need to contact the freight office.
