Horsebox owners, what are your partitions like?

Ive had my horsebox for a couple of weeks, used it for the first time on Sunday and noticed the gap between the side wall (head end) and the actual partiton 'body' is very wide. Its hard to explain but if there was a locker in there there wouldnt be a problem. My horse even tied up can lower his head and peep through the gap which must be 2 ft wide. He could probably put his whole neck through if allowed. The partitions are the telescopic type and otherwise very sturdy and substantial. There are removable head partitions, so that bits fine. We were going to travel him with a friend to give him confidence but we cant risk it as although great mates, will play fight with each other and all hell could break out.
We are thinking of how to modify them to make them a bit more horse friendly but somehow leaving room to get through if needed.
Anyone got similar ones.

Thanks for replying,
Daft arent they, never give it much thought but seeing though my horse tried to get through the jockey door of my old trailer, Im now a bit concerned as his confidence is at an all time low travelling wise. When I went to look at the boxes in build they all had tack lockers and I never even questioned it.
Glad Im not the only one

Hi Thistle, we were thinking of something like that, it would be nice to have something that could be removed, swung open etc so you could access the horse area if needed. You probably didnt take much notice but did you notice if they were permanently fixed?
My horse used to be a great traveller too until he went in a trailer. Im sure or hope he will come right again.

In my lorry I have the same type of partitions that you describe I do have removable head guards too.
However in between each partition there are chains covered in plastic (like a really fat bicycle lock) which link across in front of each horses chest. This restrains then from falling onto the lockers in front of them but also creates a walkthrough between the horses and locker/wall. Let me know if you want me to post some pics as it'd be easy to do in your lorry and would stops the horses from getting on top of each other.

Mine look like this

But when I first got the lorry I used to tie Jenny to the tie ring at the front and found she could still stick her head under the partition even with the head bit there. In fact I feel if the head bit wasn't there she wouldn't try and stick her head under - its because she can't see out when the ramps down that makes her try it. I have to tie her to the high ring where the haynet ties to stop her trying or I think she could injure herself poking her nose under. The lockers don't stop her trying either.

Hi, really nice to hear from you.
Thanks for posting the pic, I havent got lockers so my gap looks massive but probally really isnt much more than yours.
We tied him tighter tonight when we went for a practice run and he was much better. I think Im going to look into having some modification though if I can as he can be stupid at times.
