Does anyone have any ideas about how easy/and the cost of changing a horsebox ramp to a hydraulic ramp. Just thinking about it as my ramp is so heavy and its doing my back in. Its probably too expensive though.
Not had that happen or heard about it happening.... Have heard of them breaking on the way up and then you have to push it like normal but they usually have a flip button and when it is one way the hydrolics control the ramp but when it is the other they don't so even if it did, you would just flip the swith I'd guess! You are meant to flip the hypralic switch off once the ramp us up and the bars across rather than travel with it on anyway!
I did hear about how someone thoughtfully manually closed the ramp of a lorry with a hydraulic ramp when they were trying to get past it by pushing it up (took 3 people to do) and when the owner came back and pressed the button to lower it hydraulically, they were nearly flattened as the whole thing came down in a nanosecond.
I must say, I don't know if adding one to a normal ramp would make it mega heavy but the ones that are made like that are SO SO heavy....... I can not get it off the floor at all, not even 1mm.
presumably the springs are not the same as the ones used on the lorries that don't have hydraulic assistance? Good springs are the best thing for ramps.
sorry don't mean to be cheeky but have you tried adjusting the springs on your ramp. They are usually quite easy to adjust. On my old lorry I had a long piece of rope to help pull the ramp down and the springs adjust so that the ramp went up very easy. Or you could try adding a rope pulley to the lorry near the top of the ramp. Makes putting the ramp up a bit easier.
It is not a manual ramp that I am talking about, it's an automatic one - I am just saying that once when I tried to lift it, it was very heavy. But it goes up and down from a button!
