Hi, I’m looking at buying a horsebox from horsebox seller near Banbury. Does anyone have any experience of dealing with this company. It is an Ashbrook box, I’ve not heard of these, anyone know anything good/bad about them ?

I suggest you google them and go in with your eyes open and wallet closed. They do have good boxes but the cheaper ones are cheap for a reason (not talking about Ashbrook)

After losing a lot of money and now having been in contact with others who unfortunately got in the same issue I personal wouldn’t touch with a barge pole

They have a terrible reputation. Make sure you get a full inspection of the the box (mechanical) and the horse area. They refused to let my chosen inspector on their premises so I walked away. I don't know about that make of horsebox

No idea about Ashbrook. Bought from Horsebox Seller years ago and was lucky - but mine was a high end box and hardly used. Wouldn't buy a second time from there.

Bought a box from them last year. As others have said, check it over very carefully, hands and knees stuff. Don't just look at the horse area, the cab is also important (e.g. all lights in the dash work, there are two sets of keys). Make it clear that you need all MOT failures and advisories to be fixed properly as a part of the price (i.e no reconditioning on the cheap). Do not look at a box that needs a lot of structural repairs (e.g. ramp is a bit misaligned) as you most likely will be disappointed in the quality of the repair. Make it clear that on the day you go to collect the vehicle you will not pay for it until you have looked at eveything they have supposedly done as a part of the deal. This is all sounds terrible but I would think all dealers have an element of shadiness so you just need to have your wits about you.

Bought a lorry about 2 years ago from them with the agreement it would come with years MOT. Failed the MOT and they basically unknowingly to me at the time bodged it to get it through, still paying to have it sorted now.
They were full of promises from the start none of which they forfilled and didn’t want to know about any issues! Would avoid at all costs!

I’m surprised at all these negative replies actually!
Mine is from them. We did have some issues at first and if it wasn’t for my OH getting very angry at them I don’t think I’d have got anywhere getting it repaired.
That said I still have it many years later and it’s been a good cheaper end box.
A friend bought more recently and she’s over the moon with her lovely little lorry. She has no complaints at all. I thought I was just unlucky.
I think the son runs the business more now, it was the father back when I bought mine.

I bought mine from the father in 2012. Took my mechanic who came up with a long list of issues - sale was subject to all being done properly - and told him my mecahnic would be reinspecting. All was done fine - but I wouldn't buy from them again, but there is a risk with any trader or individual, all you can do is get a very thorough inspection

No probably for the best! Its a shame because they do have some nice looking boxes. Id personally look at them again but as above incredibly carefully and with an experienced mechanic or subject to a pre-purchase type inspection.

I bought from them, took a mechanic who inspected the box & found a few small bits, all fixed & ready to collect on the allotted day. 4 years on had no problems at all & very happy but definitely take someone with you, there were quite a lot of 3.5t for sale, out of all of them there were about 3 my mechanic would consider & one of those we bought.
