Can anyone help me with a query on my horseboxs steering. If i go up to 50 km in the box it seems to swing from side to side, not all over the road but I can feel it driving. Ive asked my mechanic to check this and he says its not a steering issue, its caused by the actual horsebox as it extends beyond the cab.. Id really like a second opinion on this so would appreciate any advice...

What size is it ??? make ?? could be many things!!!, worn bushes in the springs or anti roll bar most horse boxes will have done a few miles so the shock absorbers are worn out few people think of changing them unless they are leaking oil but they make a huge difference, if it judders and lurches over bumps thats a good indicator of worn shocks, Has this problem just started happening??? the other possibility is the ballance of the box, it isnt built quite right ie you have a big overhang at the back so its tail heavy or a big heavy luton and living thats overloding the front axle,or you arnt loading it right IE putting one horse right at back or the other thing is is it overloaded !!! you could prove the weight issue by going to a public weighbridge and doing both axles as well as the total weight...

I had a ford transit that did exactly the same, it was high and heavy, not good on motorways etc. Also had a vw lt35 which was much better, as it the weight was distributed better, had to sell due to financial reasons, but i miss is so much, saving up for a renault master, low to the ground and easy to drive, when will that lottery win come in!!

Thankyou so much for the feedback. Its a 7.5 ton daf, it doesnt really lurch or judder over any bumps. I can be driving along and suddenly it will start to see saw for a bit then it'll go then come back. It has minimum living and not definitly not overloaded at the luton. It also does this when empty and its well within the weight restriction.

could be

tracking issue
steering rods
uneven pressure in tyres
wind
my one does this in winds
springs
my car does this if i hit nearer 50 with trailer .
also other mechanical problem
i would get it totally checked out if all clear

keep in lower speed where it does not do this.

Thankyou for the responses, it does this on all roads.. Think i'll take it and get the tyres checked out then I'll get the mechanic to drive it and see what he says.
