HOrsebox vs 4x4 and trailer - does anyone have a cost breakdown already done?

Now that we have 1.5 horses we really need to be able to transport both. The plan was to trade in the Ifor single box for a 510 and buy a 4x4 for towing only. However, having been to HOYS in my friends box I am seeing the far greater attraction of having a box with some living in it when we're out all day or are at camp etc.

So, being lazy, does anyone already have a cost comparison I can use?
 
Actually yes.

This was a couple of years ago and based on buying a horsebox at value £7,500, and keeping current car, or buying 4X4 at cost of £6,000 plus trailer at £3,000. Over three years total costs would be £28,330 for horsebox and car, and £24,210 for 4x4 and trailer. This included estimates on fuel, maint and dep'n, and insurance. Despite the above, I went for the horsebox option and haven't regretted it for a moment!

Were looking to swap our horsebox for a 4x4 and trailer... with having a lorry, it may cost very slightly less in the long long run, but there are more chunk payments, eg MOT tax insurance etc.... we only have one horse now, but will often take 2 as riding one for someone ese, but after much thought, our trusty steed has to go... trailers are a lot less hassle imo! (unless youve got the money to buy a v nice lorry)
 
hi i look at the horses comfort and IMO a box delivers a more comfortable ride than a trailer. Plus on my licence i would need to take an additional test in order to show my capability to tow a trailer. not worth the hassle as i can drive a small lorry on current licence. :)
 
I have had the following:

Bateson + 4Trak
3.5 Tonne lorry
Equitrek + Disco
7.5 tonne lorry

All were pretty good tbh. It really depends on your budget, horse size, how often you travel and how your horse travels. Mine are 17.2hh and 17hh so both in the Equitrek were not an option. Also, the big lad doesnt travel well in trailers, hence the lorry. Its gorge (drool) and took a while to save up for. Shame both horses are lame :(
