I currently have a IW 505 and a 4x4(used only for towing the horses so has its own mot, tax etc) and am thinking of getting a box. Are there any extra or hidden costs on top of what I have already for trailer and car? Bearing in mind that the car is only used for horses so I have to pay mot, tax, insurance etc for it already.

Thanks

do you have horse trailer recovery? Plateing instead of MOT is a more normally! the test is £70 I think and has to go to a specialist garage not like you car. Parts tend to be more expensive.

I have just changed from trailer to lorry and loveing it

I personnel loved the changed, Yes it is more to run in diesel, mot, servicing (twice a year), recovery cover, BUT prob same insurance as car tho or cheaper depending on age.

So many postitives

If its a 3.5ton there isnt really much difference in cost. Tax is normally the same as a large engined car, you will have a mot not plating and it can normally be done at any garage as long as they have the room for high sided vans, if not a commercial garage should do it at the same cost.
Parts can be more expensive for vans or lorry, i have a transit so parts arnt too bad. Again it depends on the make of the lorry on the cost of the parts.
You will prob spend more to fill a tank with diesel in a lorry but that because the tanks are bigger but fuel economy shouldnt be too bad.
I perfer boxes to trailers and when i get another horse will be upgrading to a larger lorry but my small one has been fab in the years ive had it.

QR to all.

Thanks for all the responses. It's a 7.5T lorry that I'm looking at. I think I have decided to go for it as it sounds not much more than running a car and trailer at least it would get a car off our drive anyway !
