i want to exchange my 3-horse full living lorry for similar but much newer, just wanted recommendations really.
Has anyone dealt with Solitaire Horseboxes in Leics? Any good? also, GC Smith?
thankyou.

Abi Horseboxes are fab, id get one if i was up north! I think they are based in Manchester.

Pathelschoice from here is married to the guy who runs it i think - might be worth PMing her?

I agree Solitaire are fab thats what my new one is and I love it!

Smith's have a fantastic reputation, they are really well built boxes. Are you looking for another box with a proper living or just like a hunting box? With the increasing fuel prices I would be inclined to go for an alloy hunting box, with a small day living/changing area, gives much better value for money too.

I am having a box built ATM by a company called East Riding Horse Boxes. They are well established having spent years supplying parts. Cant wait to take delivery at the end of this month.

The company have stayed in constant contact with me and that goes a long way as far as Im concerned. I couldnt believe how many big name companies cant even return calls these days... *shakes head*...

looking for 3 horse, small day living, lots of storage, no tack locker intruding into front of horses (can't stand it), newish chassis, good coachbuilt make. have quite a bit to add to value of my box.
was is _daisy_ who gave the great advice about chassis (plural!) etc... i can't remember... it sounded as if her partner was in the business, but i've deleted her pm.

if anyone knows who it was, please let me know! thanks!

Friend has a Solitaire and is very happy with it although there was some difference with the weight so would get it checked on a weighbridge to be sure before you buy

Think Andrew Saywell at Select is your best bet, Solitaire are very good too but Andrews (imo) are better value for money

He's near newark

Agree re. the Select Boxes. Know someone who will build a lorry to your spec if you want, but he doesnt do living, just the horse areas and basics, but he is very good?!

We looked at Select and they have about half of them with living in them and the ones with no living he will quote to put living in.This was only about a month ago.

I can recommend Oakland Coachbuilders. I have one and very well made. My mechanic also reckons they are in the top 10 of coachbuilders in the country. Check out their website.

Might poss be a bit far for you but I have a Thorpe horsebox and love it to bits (except I have managed to dent it and worse for the last 3 times out! Not my fault tho thank god).

Like you I dont like the tack locker bit into the horse area. This has a tack locker that is behind the grill/hob sort of area.

i second a thorpe we have one...just google thorpe horseboxes

we had one built by them

We got out Lorry from Joe Prescott he used to build Ascotts think he still does so it's that but a bit cheaper! It was good service and lorry runs really well so I'm happy with it.

I have a 21 year old GC Smith which is still fab! They are really solidly built bodies, even the the newer ones. (unlike many I looked at) It is lovely and light and well ventilated in the horse area and even bad travellers travel really well in it which after all is the most important thing

I previously had an Oakland, again, a really solid lorry, not over heavy (was stick framed) and a really well equiped, airy horse area.
