You can drive a vehicle with a max loading with horses etc of 3.5T. Otherwise you need to take your LGV, think this is around £1k?

you cant drive a 7.5t without taking your LGV test which is around £1000 depending on how many lessons you have. You can do intensive week courses like with driving aswell tho. You also need to take a medical before you can get your provisional which is another £80 on top of that.

You can drive a 3.5t lorry, renault do some nice ones - you should be able to get your two horses in there, altho make sure you check out exactly all the weights before buying one.

As others have said you will need your LGV test to drive anything over 3.5T and up to 7.5T, you can get nice boxes around the 5.5T mark that would carry 2x16.2hh and give you small basic living.
Unless you have a large budget that enables you to buy top of the range 3.5T you will struggle to find a 3.5T box to carry yours and your friends within the weight.

As Sam P said you can only drive up to 3.5 tonnes on your car licence. You can either do a 7.5 tonne test or do your LGV licence that will allow you to drive mahoosive trucks!

Generally I think the standard courses are around 4 days plus a test at the end and cost about £1000. There is an EU "women in transport" scheme that subsidises about 50% of the cost but I'm not sure if this is only available if you plan to drive for a living or as part of your job.

I think that you may need to renew an LGV licence every 5 years or so and need to have done a certain amount of driving hours in something over 7.5 tonnes.

LGV license allows you to drive between 3.5ton and 7.5ton, not big trucks, you need your HGV for that! TBH if you are going to do your LGV, you may aswell do your HGV as cost difference is minimal.

completely agree with you there its the same price and the same test basically !!

def need 5.5 tonne up. 3.5 tonners ave around 1.2 payload which ave horse like yours will be 600 odd kgs plus you, equipment so would not take another pony plus rider etc without being very close or over limit. Stability in some 3.5 tonners an issue when loaded with one let alone two
