Anyone used these please ? I have a horse in a tricky state and need to keep poultice on whilst he is in a bedded down barn not in the field.

Many thanks.

Worked for me when my horse had 2 month nightmare abscess.

I did turn out in them too. Don't think ever came off.

Did rub at the back eventually but think be perfect for short term barn use.

I bought second, and lots of replacement cables.

It confused my vet that need to cut cable to get it off.

Thank you, I have managed to source one locally and just picked it up. Looks like a physics degree is needed to work out how to put it on. Just hope it will fit my mammoth sized youngster.

Worked well for me.

Took a bit of fine tuning to choose the best loops to thread the cable tie through, but this is an early example.

Poultice + nappy + vetwrap + duct tape then horsecrocz on top.

She did pull it off a couple of times in the field hooning about, but mostly it stayed on. Even when the horsecrocz pulled off, the rest of the gubbins stayed put on her foot.

It's best to warm a new horsecrocz in hot water initially to help it mould to the foot.

Good luck.

We have two sizes of these, one fits the enormously footed draught mare :) with a nappy, vet wrap and a plastic bag and it remains in place, even when turned out.

Feed the cable tie through the loops, pull it tight enough to check fit without actually engaging the little ratchet thingeys on the tie, then when fit looks good tighten properly by hand.

This may involve some ripe language and some spoilt cable ties until you are well practised, I'm afraid (or maybe that's just me ).

these look loads better than the clumpy old poultice boots that always come off in the field.
Can you use normal cable ties or do you have to buy the branded ones?

Do these stay on in mud? I've got a horse that's had a deep abscess dug out & few weeks back I've been dressing with nappy, tape etc
I've got a horsecroc but I wasn't sure how it would cope with a muddy gateway?
(Sorry to hi jack!)

The branded cable ties have a safety break point, which is a little hole stamped out of the plastic. I have wondered about making a DIY version, but I'm a wimp and buy the branded ties.

Mine didn't last long in the mud - it was very deep mud though. I also found it hard to get on but again I didn't have it warm which is pretty difficult in a cold barn with no warm water to hand.

Found it very useful when bandaging a horse's foot following an operation. Did stay on when turned out in a confined area apart from the first time when he went for a hooley and it snapped. One issue I did have was that it twisted round (both in the stable and turned out).

We ran out of the safety cable ties while we still needed to use the Croc, so we used 3 smaller thinner ones and decided that they would break under pressure.

My poorly young man is impressed with his sandals. I am also impressed with the design. I put it in warm water to make it more pliable. He was much more comfortable with it fitted to his dressing and walked back to his barn sound. Hopefully it stays put until the vets come in again tomorrow.

Thank you for all your advice.

Thanks,I did wonder... it'll have to be kept for summer use!
