Horsehage haylage

Since the grass has come through I have changed one of my ponies onto the light blue haylage as she will end up too porky if left on her usual full fat one.
She is refusing to eat it, Im not too concerned as she isnt exactly fading away but its annoying. It looks and smells fine so is she just being too fussy or does anyone else's do this.
nb I usually use Silvermoors recreation haylage

I have stopped feeding my horses haylage now as there is quite enough grass now. When they come in to their stables they get soaked hay. I won't start the haylage again now until the late autumn.

My old chap prefers the green one, it's a different texture, I think.

hard to get square bales of hay now so thought low fat haylage best plus easier to store

I imagine it is because the pony is not hungry and/or would rather eat the new grass. Are you feeding it in the field or in the stable overnight?
If the haylage smells nice I doubt there is anything wrong with it - mine love all the varients of horsehage haylage, and a change in producer shouldn't make a difference.

Mine eats anything so liked all the versions.

You could try the purple timothy one - that's lower in calories and higher in fibre. She may prefer it.

As above - your horse may just not be hungry and prefers the grass!

I have them in at night.
She will eat the 'normal' haylage but is needing restricted now the grass is growing.
So much for natives being greedy lol

I had a lot of problems with the blue ones over winter - ended up returning loads, some were mouldy, even the cattle in the next door field wouldn't touch the stuff that smelt ok - my horse eats anything and had always used the blue (native good doer) so had to go onto the green.

No longer feeding haylage as the grass is coming through but will use the blue again when I have to start buying again, hoping that it was just a bad season with all the wet.
