Horsehayge....(also in CR)

Hay would be a cheaper option, I use it but wouldn't say it was a cost effective way of feeding forage.

I don't feed hard feed though as mine doesn't need it, so if you could cut that out and just feed haylage it may be worth it, I also don't get any wastage which helps, as some hay has been awful quality.

Yes he was on hay but doesnt get much turn out now as he is getting ready to compete (has around 2-3 hours a day). He is a very very laid back sort so wanted something with a bit more in it. He has a feed of pasture mix.

Also it says one bag lasts approx four days! How?!

High quality but expensive in terms of quantity - in may provide all the nutrition in two slices a day (or whatever it claims) but even in the micro-holed nets will fail to deliver the hours of trickle feeding (chewing and swallowing) a pony needs, never mind a horse.

I'd feed it if I had to and was rich!

It's nice stuff but I wouldn't describe it as cost effective.

I fed the Timothy haylage when I was having issues with allergies. I got through 5 bags a week at least for a 16 2 tb and that was on box rest then coming back into work and he was the right weight.

Plus I found as it didn't last as long as hay I had to double net to slow him down otherwise he would be left for hours with nothing.

haha I used to ride for someone and keep my horse there when training and he fed all his horses he used to buy and sell on it....I cant imagine him spending fortunes on haylage for horses he was selling? Was a few years ago though. I know bulk ordering will make it a bit cheaper. I give him a slice in the morning and a slice at night.

When I had just one horse I did feed him Horsehage for a winter. I found a bale lasted 2/3 days max. He was only 14.2hh and turned out for at least 6 hrs per day, so although lovely quality, worked out to be a very expensive option.

The following year I found a local haylage supplier that sold small bales for a couple of pound less, and as weighed more, only needed 2 a week.

Also be careful of efeed - a livery of mine ordered 10 bales of Horsehage from them and 6 out of the 10 were damaged in transit as the wrap got pierced.

So far I have been ordering from them for over a year and found their wrapping to be much better than other suppliers with no damage. I expect it was the fault of the pallet delivery service rather than efeed.

Oh, absolutely the delivery company's fault, and efeed gave her a refund with no quibble, but would still make me a little cautious.

Countrywide have started doing their own and its much cheaper and just as good, we're feeding it until our hay is ready to use. Also can buy in pallets which makes it cheaper again :)
