Im thinking of putting an advert in local feed/tack shops advertising for someone to muck out for me over the winter ( 2 stables) in exchange for hacking out my horse as much as they wish.
It would have been ideal for me before I got my horse, but do people expect payment these days?

You may find someone desperate to ride but IMO most people pay others to ride their horse and muck out unless its a ' sharer' situation so they much out and ride for a fee.

I think its an offer i'd happily decline i'm afraid.

Would depend how many days you wanted it done. In theory I'd happily muck out for rides like this, but you have to be realistic about what you can do in practice, and I would find it hard to commit to every single day due to work etc. When it's your own horse you can be flexible and work around things like this by getting other people to help out or varying the routine, but when it's someone else's it can be trickier. Also, over winter if someone works full-time then realistically they'd only get to hack at weekends as it would be dark during the week. So mucking out two stables every single day for hacking maybe twice a week would seem a bit much for me. Would work better for a part-timer maybe? That's only my opinion though.:)

Yeah I see your point about that. I guess that would have to be worked out depending on their circumstances and how often they could get up.

IMO i think if you were totally horseless and desperate to ride you would go for it! A few years ago i agreed to muck out four horses of a weekend for the chance of a hack. But, as usual the owner started to take the p and decided to claim she had started deep littering in other words leaving the horses knee deep in ***** til the weekend when muggins turned up to muck out:eek:
Fortunately, i now have my own horse but must say if you are going to do it fairly then yes i would do it :D

No if I were to muck out every day for you I'd want to do something more than just hack. If I could school, chance to compete or hunt then yes I'd do it as long as it was near by... bare in mind though there are a lot of people looking for riders at this time of year, just before the summer I put an ad out looking for rides and had 8 or 9 people biting my hand off offering their horses and that was just going into summer!! No financial commitment or anything I was just happy to go up and do the horse one end of the day if needed and keep it fit/school it on.

Skydancer: Oh yes I would be fair about it, I wouldn't expect more done than I do myself.
I would'nt go around measuring the banks afterwards :p

Twizzel: Thats fair enough, and I would'nt mind him being schooled if I had a menage, unfortunalty I don't atm.

I have to say, two or three mornings in return for hacking at weekends I would do... I'd just struggle to be able to always do the same mornings, and that's just not fair on the horse's owner IMO.

I would welcome this sort of arrangement myself, depending on if the horse was suitable for me to ride. I am not working now, so have time. I suppose it really depends on each person's individual circumstances

As twizzle says I would if I could do other things such as competing/hunting. Im currently horseless, but looking for another and its taking ages to find one.
