I bought my horse as a 5 year old- except 3 years later she has only just gotten the teeth coming through at the sides of the mouth behind the front teeth- judging by the teeth charts they get these at about 5 years old! if anybody has read my posts before they'll know the sale was was dodgy and being a stupid first time buyer me + family didn't know what we were doing in honesty. so wondering if it is possible she could be younger than we thought =/ i bloody hope not but its playing on my mind. Can the passport be lied on?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but its on my mind and i don't know who to ask :P

I would take a VERY close look at your passport check every single little thing that is on there against your horse.
I say this because i have had a similar experience.

When i went to view my horse the advert was for a green 7yo gelding. I went tried him, really liked him, could see the potential in him ect. Got a vetting and the vet checked his teeth and said he was nearer 5 than 7!!! Well no wonder he was green bless him
We then checked the passport and noticed that a couple of whorls he had were not on there and the white on one of his legs was marked on after the rest of the markings. (slightly dodgy)

Anyway after a long rambling story the vet told me it wasnt really a problem and to just get him a new passport if we bought him so thats what we did. I also gave him some rest when i first got him as he had had a lot of stress on young joints.

To me it does seem a bit fishy that she is only getting these teeth now....maybe get a vet or an EDT out to have a look?

I got my horse on loan about 8 years ago. Said 16 yrs old on his passport even got vet checked by the owners vet (say no more) and when i got my dentist to look at him he was more like 26!!!! The owner denied it and said the bit must have rubbed his teeth away (Cos his back ones are morealess gone) Needless to say i havent seen her for 8 years so yes passports arenot always truthful!

My friend got a pony on full loan from a lady and they were told he was 8 then it turned to 6 then 4 when the faiirer came and looked at his teeth he was 2! the owner never showed her the passport even to this day! so he was broken as a yearling

I cant understand why people lie about horses age if they valued ther horse or cared about it they wouldnt! Just like my horses owner who didnt have a clue and couldnt careless!!! My boy was starved when i got him too his loving owner had put him on loan in Wales and never went to see him for a year until i brought him back to my yard!! Some people she had all the gear but no idea LOL!!!!!

they lie because a 5 year old can jump and be worked at a higher level so can be priced higher!- oh but they may not actually be 5, then get seriously hurt :(. i'll be devastated if she is younger then i thought as i've jumped her etc thinking she was 7/8. i'm not very good with teeth aging- what should i look for ?
