Clearly I have no knowledge that donkeys are vicious, evil horse eating creatures. They MUST be avoided at all times, and when avoidance is hard, 100% surveillance is absolutely necessary, even if the rider is trying to be co-operative in a lesson for the instructor (note first lesson in 3 years!) Every move they make, including an ear twitch is noted. The rider is not. The rider clearly lies when she says 'it won't harm'. It will. Donkey may only be 11 hands tall (guessing?), little horse 15 hands, but little horse HAS to grow a further 2 hands to make sure she is bigger. Rider is still not noted. Donkey moved.... ITS GOING TO EAT ME - says mare.... donkey hasn't even brayed yet - god help me when he does!!!!

What is it with donkeys that horses dislike? Smell, look - can't be sound as he hasn't made any! Arhhh, impossible horse!

Mine nearly died of shock when he arrived and realised he was going to have to live with donkeys. But now they are inseparable. But he is freaked by donkeys who are not grey like his donkeys. Horses, what goes on in their heads? Don't get me started on the menace that are pigs!

We've done pigs and compared to donkey pigs are friends. Donkeys are mighty dangerous fire breathing dragons - and I didn't know!!

We meet a donkey on one of our hacks. First time we met it daughters horse had a heart attack! Span round and tried to leg it in the opposite direction. My horse decided it was worth investigating, climbed up the bank to greet it, fell in love and didn't want to leave it :) Met it again today, only this time it seen us coming and started braying....loudly! My boy rushed to greet it again whilst daughters boy managed not to run off but daughter could feel his heart racing. Not sure why one loves the donkey while the other loathes it!

We have tackled Donkeys, sheep and cows, even pigs. What Jay cannot understand is the local goats. Now, it is not the actual goats that get his goat (ha ha), but the fact that they have a trampoline to play on and a treehouse.

Yes, you read it right, they live in a garden and have a trampoline and treehouse. They climb up and play on both.

Goats on the floor are OK, but Jay just does not seem able to comprehend the trampoline and treehouse situation!

Donkeys are not bothered by horses, yet some horses are bothered by donkeys. Hmmm, I think that proves that donkeys have the higher intelligence!

I have a donkey and three mules, all of which render the local horse population (my own excluded) insensible with horror.

One of the funniest sights for me recently was meeting a group ride of around eight horses when I was walking my donkey out, and watching the whole lot spin in unison and gallop flat out back the way they had come with their riders flailing uselessly.

My little donk gazed after their retreating backsides in utter bemusement, before turning to me with a look that clearly said "What on earth was that about?"

Billy absolutely loves his donkeys they all lie flat out in field together and even share breakfast!

But then he is also besties with the 2 guinea fowl and a wild rabbit. He is trying to make friends with my dog also who isn't just as keen :p
He is a strange but very friendly horse, infact he is more like a big dog tbh!

I've bloody had it all lately! It seems the animal population of Gloucestershire is out to get us!

They're really not keen on the mini goats so rather than continue to trot past on our regular hacks there is always a screech to halt and then dramatic dancing sideways, the alapacas have a similar effect. I was fully expecting the cute donkey scratching it's nose on fence post to provoke a same response but actually, just one huge spook and continue. Bridle path thro field the other day and small herd of calves came running over to check us out - Lockie actually squared up to those, thought he was going to give them bit of a pasting.

By far the most dramatic tho was happening upon a deer in our path in the woods. Cue the most spectacular meltdown ever!! I ride and lead and how I stayed on one and kept hold of the other I do not know!

So Eyore may well be pretty threatening but it would appear Bambi is in fact THE most menacing creature out!

Just love your donks - I love the way they are eyeing up the hay.

Funny isn't it, TB seem to be the most allergic to donkeys, we have a few ex-racehorses around here and reckon that when they can cope with the donks they are ready for the world.

Arhhh, death by Bambi! How terrifying.

Guess they are lucky that we don't have REAL dragons and dinosaurs. Or do we - in the shapes of Eeore, Piglet, Shawn, Gertrude, Thelwell and Bambi??

Can't see that it bothered the parents of any of my mules and there were several horses in this little ring that couldn't be bothered either

I can't quite understand giving goats a trampoline! I'd love to see a video of that :P.

I got decked by my boy the first time we met a donk, he turned and ran and I didn't keep up, landed neatly on my feet beside him but facing in the opposite direction ;)

We used to hack past 3 donkeys, horses were terrified. They lived next door to llamas which were fine lol. Holly is still scared of cows, sheep and donkeys but ok with llamas. Saffy was brave enough to sniff noses with the male donkey and fell in love, every time we hacked past she would stop to see him. Holly still thought they were the most dangerous creatures ever, they did however get used to the braying. We have moved now so no more donks :(

My boy was always wary of cows which is weird as he spent 6 years on a dairy farm! The funniest is when on a hack we went past a field of black sheep, deeply suspicious. He almost went into meltdown when they produced lambs, spawn of the devil, don't you know!

Llama's were a doddle.

Met a deer on a bridle path, jumped almost on top of us out of the hedge, didn't blink an eyelid.

Horses are very strange creatures.
