Last night my niece came up for a little ride; she hadn't been for ages and was a bit nervous. Blue normally likes to march when we walk out but with Sasha on him as soon as i asked him he slowed right down to a crawl. On the yard he also moved his whole body and head around slowly while she was near, he also kept putting his head down near her so she could touch him and blowing gently on her :D normally he is VERY impatient lol :)

How are everyone elses horseys around children?

It's weird how they know! My little skitty PBA is always really gentle with a 3 year old girl at the yard. They are so cute together. He nuzzles her head and nudges her in the back if she stops stroking him! :D

My lot have personality transplants when the step hobbits are around.
Butter wouldnt melt. The minute they are going, nags are back to usual "pushing their luck, fighting" selves

Mines the same, I think she believes they are weird looking foals. A new adult or older teen riding her she'll immediately suss their weakness & see if she can take advantage, small child she'll look after & go out of her way to help.

Ned is really scared of babies, haha! A woman brought her baby to the yard and was showing him the horses and Ned snorted and ran away XD

He's good with children once they look a bit more like 'proper' people :P

Appy met a small person for the first time yesterday walking back from the field. Said small person opened and closed the gate for us but ran up behind him to catch us up.. poor lad grew to about 16hh and was trying to turn around and jog backwards while looking at her with his eyes out on stalks. Was ever so funny. I made her say hello to him when i managed to get him to the stable and he stood there blowing. Silly appy!

my horses are all used to my kids being around so i don't notice if they act differently, the kids know to keep out of the way of the big horse feet and the grumpy mares mouth lol:rolleyes: only one who i did notice a difference in was daughters old pony, as she got older he got cheekier with her:rolleyes: would get his busy legs on out hacking and throw in a sly buck in the school, stick my friends toddlers on him and he went straight into dope on a rope mode:D

oh and the timid one we had stay for a while for some handling was much more relaxed around the kids than he was around adults, kids are less threatening i guess being smaller.

My old boy adores children. He would much rather play with them than me, and his party trick is when my youngest daughter touches his muzzle he will 'laugh', not every time, but it's so cute to watch and it makes my daughter giggle and it's all very adorable.

I think horses just 'know' don't they?

My little one is really curious about them :D Followed my niece around and kept trying to sniff her hair. She loves little people - although TBF, she loves everyone.

The big one is very good with them and when they ride her, she is really well-behaved.

They know don't they? :D

The kind ones adapt to the particular child or person in question, some of the other little gits still walk over anyone for a blade of grass though:mad: A pony like that is worth their weight in gold, literally. I have been very lucky and have had several wonderful ponies for my daughter, and they went on to do the same for other children.

Charley may be tiny, but he's a Jack Russel of a pony, big person in a small body, he's a big, fierce stallion don't we know!

But ... give him a child and he's a pussy cat. Last year one of my Boarders took him to a 4H show, she ran him into the ground, he was shattered, he kept soldiering on and didn't put a foot wrong for that child all day long. She is completely blind by the way.

aww, at Enfys' photos!

My old cob turns into a dope on a rope - he's never exactly a psychopath, but he's forward and sharp if he's in the mood with me - but put a kid on him and he's an angel. Used to do pony rides at village fetes, he'll look after anyone on a hack or round a little course of jumps :o

I haven't yet tested Fergles out with small children. I'm certain he'd be fine on the lead rein. I wouldn't like to try him out off it yet though :p

Mine generally loves being a lead rein pony . I think its the ammount of carrots he gets from them and the loack of work required . He might have a little disabled boy coming to have a ride on him as he was told off for holding his reins wrong when he went to have a lesson :( poor kid loves horses though.

My boy used to help at for RDA - we used to power hack there (his choice) be spooky and silly then he would be an angel for kid, always really gentle, brave and slow. When i got back on him to hack home we were prancing and dancing everywhere! He is the same with my cousins (5yr old and 7months) so gentle and waits why his dinner is carrried to his stable at small child pace without kicking door down - but with me i can run and he still bangs away!! little monkeys know when mummy is onboard or incharge!
