I know lots of horses stay very safe with lakes all around them but last winter my RI who comes from England lost a youngster when it walked out on the ice and drowned

I know lots of horses stay very safe with lakes all around them but last winter my RI who comes from England lost a youngster when it walked out on the ice and drowned
How awful! Will definitely fence it off I think, especially as I have one mare in foal and another mare to be put in foal next year. I thought I would use the new land mainly for the mares and foals, and field ornament, and keep my old land for my riding horses and liveries.
