I lost my phone at the field, yesterday. I knew it had to be there, since I'd sent a message to my smooch pot before leaving and I'd only made up feeds, walked to the car and driven home. We went up there later in the evening and searched, to no avail. I even looked in their feeds, as a banana had dropped in there, from my coat pocket, but saw nothing.

Well, this morning, Chloe got more than she expected in her feed bowl and my Nokia 5800 will never be troubled by Sweet Itch or dodgy skin, having spent about 20 hours soaking in the stuff. She licked it clean, too, bless her!

I somehow doubt my poor phone will come back from this one!!!

Please feel free to add your interesting phone stories (and include recommendations for horse-proof phones, for when I get a new one!!).

My samsung soul 900 (gorgeous phone!!) got drowned in a bucket of hot soapy water whilst washing my old horses horrible tail! It wasi n my pocket, and as i bent down to grab the sponge to do the top, it just dropped into the bucket. I just stared at it for a few seconds, then grabbed it out. It was still working so i pulled it apart to dry, but alas, it did not survive!! Back to the old phone for me!! Just got a new phone on contract so this one will not be going to the yard. I will swap it out for my old one!! Although not got a horse right now!!

Someone at my yard hung their coat on the hook outside my horses door, he pulled the coat in, managed to get the phone out of the pocket, and had a quick chew. He managed to press redial, and used all the owner's credit on the call..... it was her husband who got the call, and he rushed up to the yard imagining all sorts!

I was late at an ODE once, running round the XC course and my phone came out of my top pocket and disappeared in the long grass, I had to ask the jump judge to ring it until I found it!

As for horse proof phones, I'm hoping to get the Land Rover phone....

Got home to find mine was missing, had a good idea where it would be, drove to the muddy feild gate, got wife to ring it, found it pretty quick, now, it's November -5deg very dark, I turned round to a Policeman with a torch, he had 3 other colleagues nearby looking for a flasher, -5, bloody -5, totally dark, who the hell is going to see him and how cold was his todger going to be  4 coppers for one flasher, obviously not busy night:rolleyes:

Brilliant!! I'm starting to get concerned about the amount of flashers hanging around horsey areas though!!

I dropped mine in the only patch of liquid mud in the field, it didn't die instantly but the mud got in the battery charger bit and it died a slow death that way instead!! Only thing I've found to work, phone insurance, got a replacement the next day!

Last year i had been grooming daughters very hairy pony while she was moulting, had my phone in the pocket of my hoody, got home all itchy and covered in hair so whipped jumper off and put washing machine straight on....yep phone still in the pocket! D'oh.

The a few weeks ago i left my phone on the ledge above Milly's water bucket, totally stupid thing to do and even as i did it i thought....this is a really bad idea, but i still did it ( me all over really!) anyway, heard a plop, looked in, Milly was looking sheepish and phone was drowned. Stupid me!!!

I have the landrover of mobile phones:) It's been in water buckets, dropped onto the road from my pocket when I was riding and even been chewed by my horse. It is ancient my OH and friends are ashamed when I get it out in public and it can't receive or send pic messages but I love it!

My friend who I share the yard with burried her phone in the muck heap last summer. She put it into the empty wheelbarrow, threw muck on top and it ended up in the muck heap. Only found because she got me to ring it when she realised she had lost it (thought it was lying in the grass). She literally had to dig it out and it was an almost new phone. She cleaned it and it survived, think she might have given it to one of her sons when his was stolen!

Went to the loo in the hospital, phone was in back pocket of my jeans and promptly fell down the loo. Fished it out but it was knackered, i thought, well that was pish lol told the guy at the insurance company that it fell out of my bag into a puddle, he said, 'well that makes a change from it falling down the toilet, that's all i have had all day!!'
other one fell in the river, unfortunately it was in my back pocket at the time. I was trying to fish my dogs ball out of the water and turned to go back up the bank and went in backwards. Another phone wrecked. Got the ball though :-) and being the good dog owner that i was, continued/squelched round the walk lol

My phones have all been pretty hardy. My first one was a flip phone (motorola? or something like that) and spent 3 days in a well used arena in a puddle. A day on the radiator and it did come back to life, even if the screen was a bit dodgy.

Another has been dropped in a waterbucket after i forgot it was on the side of the stable and horsey decided it looked tasty. When it was found not to be tasty it got spat in the bucket. That came back to life after a spell on the radiator too. Although not for long. That was an old sony ericsson.

The current one has dents all over it and a slightly cracked screen in 2 places after being dropped on gravel several (actually probably about 100, about 2x a week!) times. It has also spent 2 nights in a haylage bale and a night in a haynet belonging to a yearling at various times. It's a smamsung u900. Better than i expected from a samsung too. I now have the choice of one of the newish sony walkman phones but i haven't used it yet as i know it's going to get killed pretty quickly. It feels a bit flimsy. Also the reason i've not got anything fancy like an iphone. (plus i can't use touch screens with gloves on in winter.)

I should really learn to zip my pockets up!

my phone's old and horrible lol!! i don't often take it to the yard, only if i'm expecting a text/call, but it's been dropped in the arena (probably not stepped on though) and dropped on concrete (making the back come off really easily).

i once left my gloves in his manger and i went to the yard the next day to find chaff covered gloves XD everyone thought he'd tried to eat them - not suprising there, he's really greedy

I was having a text conversation with my boyfriend, and he asked what i was doing, I replied hacking out, and he went on about how difficult it tis to do 2 things at once. I was banging on about how good women are to multi-task, and prompty dropped the phone, and it ended up in about 10 pieces on the road. I've learned to shut up now!!!

oh god, this threads made me laugh! I think the funniest was a pony I had on loan years ago, knicked my phone out of my hand from over the field fence and trotted off with it!

Ludo likes to chew on jacket toggles, pockets etc and often grabs hold of my keys in my pocket. Several years ago now, I had my phone in my pocket, he grabbed it and chewed down hard. Thinking that as it was clamshelll phone it'll be OK, but no, great big crack down the screen that was now all black and swirrly patterned. Took it to the shop to get a replacement and the shop assistant asked me how it;d happened so told him the truth -my horse chewed it. The look on his face was priceless, to which I replied "you don't get that everyday do you".:D

lol, thanks everyone! Said phone is drying out naturally, as my phone company friends said the worst thing is to use a radiator - buggers the electrics, apparently! However, I'm happily using my N73 and enjoying that. Think I'll go back to something more robust for my upgrade in August. I've never had so much bad luck with a phone! It's already survived a drenching from being caught out in a thunderstorm and a swim in the sink!

Somethingorother, I should learn to zip my pockets up, too! I once lost a phone out on a ride and had to ride the almost whole route again in reverse to find it in a muddy patch. That was a 5110, I think, the old but hardy variety! I even have one of those arm-attachment phone holders, but do I use it? Why that would be too sensible!!!!!!!!!

Only one of my phones has died in a horse related incident and that got killed by blenheim horse trials. The year they hosted the europeans championships and it peed down all day. I stayed nice and dry in my brand new goretex jacket but my handbag wasn't very waterproof and when I got home I discovered a puddle had formed inside. Phone was dead, so I took it apart emptied the water out and left it to dry. It didn't seem to work so got a replacement on the insurance, but about two months later it came back to life!

I do know someone who buried his phone in the muck heap by mistake, and it eventually turned up, and still worked!

I also know someone who dropped their phone in hot stew and after a quick clean it also carried on working!

Not a phone, but a camera, last year.

I had gone up the field to take some photos of my new horse, which I did. The field was quite large and the horses were all in the middle grazing. I then hung the camera on a fence rail and continued to do some poo picking. By the time I had got to the opposite end of the field I looked up to see the 3 horses had wandered over to where my camera was hanging and they were playing with it. My lovely new horse was the ringleader, and he had the strap in his mouth and was swinging it about while the other two horses were looking on with admiration. By the time I'd ran over they had not only thrown it onto the floor, but trampled it to death too!

Not horse, but dog chewed my blackberry storm when I had only had it 3 days. Completely ruined and I had just taken out a 24 month contract - with no insurance....

I'm currently on my third Samsung Solid... But only because I lose them, not because they break! :D My first got dropped in a fresh pile of poop, courtesy of Gwen the Coblet, and I did pick it up very gingerly...
Thought I had lost a camera in Sweden, for about six months, then found it,days before I was due to get a new one! Its still with me to this day :)

My mums phone last week got chewed by her dog, she was in the loo and could hear it ringing, so could baz and the noise and vibrate was too much for him to resist chewing on.

I got a new phone had it 4 days, dropped it in the bath, had only run the hot water so took ages to fish out. It did dry out and work though. I was then waving it around in the pub telling a friend about how it'd survived the bath, when I dropped it in my archers and lemonade :s
It sort of worked after that.
