Hello everyone :D

I've been on here for a few months but never posted or commented (little bit scared lol :()

Im currently 6 months pregnant and have a 4 year old coloured ISH (pic in sig) and im missing riding so much!! :(:(:(

I was wondering if any of you have been pregnant with horses because at the moment it feels like i'm never going to ride again. Struggling to see the light at the end of tunnel lol :(

Also how quick did you get back in the saddle??

Much appreciated

 try not to get too down about it, your time in the saddle will be back before you know it.

When I was pregnant with my son I stopped riding at 16wks because something in my head told me to but i continued to do everything else with the horses and even did a bit of in hand showing until i couldnt get my jacket over my bump. I ended up being induced for labour at 15 days over due but continued to mucking out and poo picked etc right up until the end. I had to stop @ the horses on way back from hospital with my son cause I was gagging to check them over :) finally sat back on 2 weeks afterwards but was literally for 5 min in walk took a good 6weeks before i could do much more than that. My son is now 2 and half and we have a great balance of me riding and being at the yard, he loves to much out with his mini fork & wheelbarrow and will happily watch me ride for 30min (bribed with some mini cheddars!)

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and enjoy your baby x

Yep me :)

I've got 2 children but I did ride through both my pregnancies. I stopped at 30 weeks with my 1st and 36 weeks with my 2nd :) I was back on 10 days after the 1st and 5 days after the 2nd.

After my youngest I did my first ODE when he was 10 weeks old. He was completely BF (neither of my children have ever had a bottle) so the tricky bit was warming up for my dressage as he was insistant on the boob every 5 minutes :D

Both my children are a bit older now and I would say that I've pretty much got a lot of my life back....to the extent that I've got a baby ex-racer that I'm intending to BE this season

2 weeks afterwards I was back in the saddle with my first & with my second I think it was less than that! I know of people back in the saddle after a couple of days..... Ouch!

It's manageable, it takes a lot of blind determination and a great support team, I couldn't do as much as I do without my mum & husband looking after my boys when I'm competing, but we make sure in the summer that we go to events that are fun days out & they are pretty keen on ponies at the moment anyway...... They are 3 & 4,

I was back hunting the season after my first, but then horse went a bit wrong & we didn't start eventing until the year after my second..... Couldn't fit any between the two as had got pregnant again!!

The biggest limiting factor is cost, but like with everything, you make sacrifices

Good luck, it's actually easier when they are tiny & sit in a pram & snooze than when you have toddlers who want to run around & have no fear, so bite the bullet & get back into it as soon as you can, then by the time they are toddlers you don't notice the chaos so much!!!

I'm due in 2.5 weeks and haven't ridden since the Christmas/new year break and am missing it so so much. Especially with the gorgeous weather we have had. I'm just making the most of spending time with them on the ground and getting everything ready and catching up on poo picking while I have the time. I'm hoping the time off will do my boy some good, we all deserve a break every now and then. At least when you are back riding you will still have some summer to enjoy. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

I rode up to 24 weeks but continued to look after my horses (3) until the morning I went into labour (was 11 days overdue) I was in hospital for a few days due to complications, and the yard looked after my horses for the week I was recovering at home, I just popped down to pat them!
My daughter is 3 weeks old now and I'm in a routine already- I go and do the horses/muck out/walk the dog before OH leaves for work at 7.45am, then I'm home all day, then I leave daughter with my mum on my way back to yard to bring in/feed etc.

I rode for the first time on Sat- couldn't stop grinning!!

I stopped riding fairly early in both my pregnancies - I was lucky in the fact that I own mares, so I put them in foal!

We are all different, I know people that have just about ridden to the labour ward  and others like me who gave up straight away (I turned into a hippo when I was pregnant, sooo big, don't think I would have been able to ride even if I had wanted).

But I did carry on with all the other aspects of horse care and at the time had 350 sheep to care for, and I think the more exercise you get the better.

Each to their own, really good luck for your pregnancy and birth, and you will be back riding before you know it.

I am 14 weeks pregnant also and gave up pretty much as soon as I found out I was expecting, sold my 4 year old and put my 9 year old on Loan to my friend. The 4 year old wasn't going to be realistic to keep
In reality, almost 17hh very athletic and needs a job. My 9 year old is my show jumper whom I have had 3 years and whilst not straight forward as such is consistent with her quirks, plus my friend loves her. Meanwhile I'm putting the money I would have spent on
Horses away so I can afford to live when on maternity

Thank you for all your kind words :D

I am really excited about having him (yes im having a boy eeekkk) and it has come at a very good time to be honest as i backed my mare in september/october and then she has been turned away since so hopefully it will have done her a world of good being turned away for 6 months +

Also the mucking out and poo picking etc is keeping me fit and keeping the weight off a little although i do look like a whale already

Thank you all again :D:D
