Does your OH help out out wih the horses? My OH ocasionally comes down the yard but today he surprised me, I sometimes jokingly ask if he wants to get on one of the horses, He always says maybe one day.
Well this morning he asked if he could ride , so i tacked up my mums dales pony for him, My loan pony is to quick and Monty hasn't been ridden yet so he didn't want to ride them.
He walked her round the school and had a very short trot, I took a few photos as it probably wont happen again :)-

He looks very at home up onboard. I wouldn't be so sure that he won't want to do it again unless of course he got scared by your mums pony. You watch, next time he will be wanting to go faster and start jumping and before you know it he will be out there competing against you lol

Looks like he has quite a natural seat, quick buy him some joddys and boots and get him in on it !!!!

Hey hes not bad at riding! tho his footwear looks a bit deathwish :-) My OH only occasionally deigns to ride the 17h hunter we got so it was up to his weight as well as mine (got my own back by treating myself to 14.2 pony later!). So we have unfit OH and 17hh 17 yo field ornament who is healthy and shiny coated and bored...

My Hubby also asked to ride so I got him on board a friend coblet last night... Must be something in the air!! I'll post pics asap!!

xx

No wasn't scared by pony, i did have to point out at one point he was heading towards a jump (tiny cross pole) and he might want to turn :).
I wouldn't advise the footwear but it was a spur of the moment thing when we were already there. I wouldn't be complaining if he wanted to ride again :)

Ok here comes the killer question, does he know you have put those photos of him on here for the nation to see? :D

Bless him.

My OH is very supportive of what I do, as in he'll make an apperance to watch me at lessons/events etc if I ask him to, I repeat...If I ask him to. :D but he's supportive as in he understands how much my love for horses means to me and would do anything to help out...money wise not really practically, however, many moons ago he did spend years coming round shows every weekend and be the gofa *coughs* sorry the groom and did used to ride out with me on occassions until he came off, then he's kept his feet firmly on the ground since, he thinks he's too cool to be riding horses  but he's done his time with horses and to be fair he's seen enough to last him a life time, so I don't expect any more than what he's already done over the years ago.

He always says wouldnt you want to be with someone who is horsey and has their own horse etc, but actually I wouldnt, it doesnt bother me.

My OH doesn't really 'do' horses. He says they are ok to ride, but its the looking after that takes up so much time!
He wants me to take up motor-biking as he claims its safer?! Ummm, I don't think so!!!
Anyway, he has ridden - 3 times, and seemed to get the hang of it. Sadly I don't have a suitable steed for him, but maybe he is grateful for that!!?!! lol

why do men always have the 'this is easy' look when they first ride a horse lol

Mine wont get on the one whose big enough for him, he wont do any chores and just wants it all done for him so he can ride, hence he doesnt

He looks really at ease......i think your mum could be having words with you when her horsey is being ridden all of the time.....and not by her ;-)

Good on him though for having a go! i really dont think it will be his last time :-D

My boyfriend, non horsey, offered to buy half my horse and help out with her costs :) I was a little worried about him riding her as she is a green ex racehorse, however she has taught him to ride and been a complete darling with him. He's currently learning to canter and has gone from the 'i hate horses' and 'you spend more time at the yard than with me' to absolutly loving riding and the horse :) :)

I am happy with a non-horsey OH, he will do haynets and water buckets when around the yard but i wouldn't mind if he didn't. He came to one show to watch me last year, he does say they take up alot of time but also knows they make me happy.
He knows the photos are on here (well i mentioned i might) would put them on facebook but photo uploader isn't working.

My boyfriend hasn't really asked me if he could ride as he's a little scared.

However yesterday morning after picking him up from a night shift, he did muck out a stable without me asking him to.

He's getting there slowly.

My husband is excellent with horse care, my horse adores him.

He thinks getting on them is just plain madness though. Can't see that changing somehow :)

My OH is amazing i just keep my horses at a field en route to his work so he calls in once a day and hays and feeds does rugs. He moans about costs although think most of them do. He does a lot of running (training for a marathon) and works shifts so when he is on days he gets u at 4.50 and goes for a run before work so once he has finished work we do a swap over with kids he gives me a leg up and off i go!!

My OH helps out with the maintenance. He will help lead to and from the top fields (up a road) but I would only give him the easy ones to lead. he rode once and never again as he couldnt cope with being told what to do by a woman! Tis a man thing! LOL!

On the whole he is very supportive but does curse when I tell him that a fence is down or a door needs mending...Volcanic dust is nothing in comparison to the air around here at these times...:D

And he moans that we cant go on holiday but he goes anyway! LOL!

My OH doesn't really 'do' horses

Sadly, this /\/\
When we first started going out almost 13years ago, he did actually come riding a few times and was very good, but he has no interest at all now, he begrudges if I want to ever dare go via the yard on the way home from the dentist which is literally en route!
Oh well, his loss, it does get hard at times, but i tend to ignore him! :D

I am an OH helper turned rider.

My OH started riding again about 12 years ago and for 10 years I was an occasional helper / feeder / driver / scivvy. A little over 2 years ago I was looking for something 'active' to do and it was suggested I reacquaint myself with riding, having learnt about 20 years ago. I am now a fanatical horseman, spending as much spare time as is sensible either riding or working with the horses.

Watch out, this could happen to you :D

My OH rode about 5 times is now an expert and will only 'ride' if it includes galloping and or jumping! To be fair he did pick up rising trot very very quickly but is a bit of an adrenaline junkie and isn't interested in learning slowly and just wants to go fast and jump big and doesn't see the point in doing anything inbetween.
Management wise he is happy to go and turn out bring in change rugs ( however he resorts to bribes so my girl doesn't pull faces!) and is an absolute whizz at anything manual labour wise so really i shouldn't complain!

My OH is great down the yard he pushes the wheelbarrow, fills the water, makes the feed up and fills the nets. He also brings in and puts out if i have to work. He sat on my horse the other week as i stood by the side of him. He didn't like it much he said he felt like he was wobbly and going to come off lol bless him. Just stick to the poo my love.

Lovely photos! Your OH looks like he is right at home there vic! The amount of times I used to winge for a horsey OH and now I have one sometimes I kick myself for all the times he says "you should be doing that tise way...". My OH is as horsey, if not more so than myself, and this winter it has been me stealing his horses, although the winter before he was happily taking my coloured out at uni for me! He, annoyingly, has the nack of sitting on a horse and leaving well enough alone, so looks good sat on anything, and makes my coloured look well behaved!
