My sister has a lovely rising 4 ISH who she backed late last summer and then turned away for the winter to mature.

She has been going over the basics with her for the last week or so on the ground and as I was up tonight at the same time as her we decided we may as well get my sister back on board and see how she took it.

I was amazed, not only was it as though she'd never had a break but other than being a little weak and unbalanced I'd say she was actually better than when we turned her away - the break definately did her the world of good.

Sister walked her around to begin with, then popped her into trot and even had the briefest of canters. The little mare was so sweet, didn't put a foot wrong, and had her ears pricked the whole time.

It was lovely to be reminded just how rewarding horses are sometimes.

How lovely for you

. My son has been up to do my pony with me today and was cuddling pony who fell asleep over his shoulder. After a run in with another horse this week I really appreciate my little bloke and feel he is a wonderful little horse. I can appreciate how you both feel and here's to many more years with our horses
