God my horse had his back done on friday, by a chiropractor (she has seen him before) he was fine apart from his withers which were a bit out, put all back and followed instructions to give him 24hrs off and get on if pressure on the area did not bother him, so got on sunday am and i could get him to move when I mounted it took 5 mins he just went backwards (something he has never done) in the end the people I was hacking with walked past him and he moved, seemed completley fine and sound on hack (thought he was just being a bit silly).

This morning I thought I would ride early 6.30, so got him in and got on well today he completley refused to move in any direction so I gave him a smack, then tried to do the turn thing to get him to move, still refused to flicked the whip at this point (Its a bit hazy) he went so far backwards on his hocks that he had no-where to go but back and he went over and threw me on the floor, aparentley he landed on me luckly he is so carefull and doesnt land on me hard, Ive grazed my leg, and arm badley think may have broken finger, and have course banged my head (new hat here I come)!!!
The scary thing is that I wanted to get straight back on MAD!!!
Spoke to chiropractor and she is coming tomorrow to make him better cause I dont want that to happen again!!!!
Cake and ICE Cream if you have got this far!!!!

What did the chiropractor say was wrong with his withers in the first place?

Just that they were sore and out of line I think!!! Had him 4 yrs and he has never behaved like this unless he was really scared!!! He is a TB ex-racer 16hh so a fair way to fall!!! Usually jogs off when i get on in excitement, hope all is sorted tomorrow, will keep you up to date!!!

Not sure my terminology is correct they were tight and sore!!! they were fine when she left he was really comfortable, I think he is in pain too spoke to her and she thinks his back is going into spasm!!!

Sorry but my money is on something more complicated being wrong than your chiropractor's explanation. Withers can't be "a bit out". Lots of luck finding the problem and fixing it.

I think I'd talk to the vet agree with KVS. But I presume you have had the saddle checked as well? Could the tree be cracked and pinching him? (especially as he dosn't want to move in any direction?

I am highly sceptical of all these back people - some I think are nothing but a bunch of charlatans, - sounds to me you should get a vet out first.
You can't just `put all back` with bones and joints - that is just nonsense to me, it sounds like a lot of these `quacks` seek to bamboozle people with simplistic terminology and pseudo science, that has no foundation in real anatomy and physiology.

I to was somewhat sceptical (don't think that is quite the right spelling) about back people but when my saddler came out and told me he had a bit of muscle tension from his previous badly fitting saddle I got a chiropracter out. she looked my horse over and could tell me what issues he was having, which I had thought were down to the fact he is green, proceeded to twist , pull and bang with her hammers and then to leave him for 4 days. Well he was a different horse the next time I rode him, even my instructor couldn't believe the difference.

So yes back people are good but I would be somewhat wary of the state your horse is now in. Did you check them out before hand, were they recommended, are they suitably qualified. don't want to scare you but there are good and bad back people as there are good and bad farriers, guess it is just easier to tell when a farrier is bad.

Thanks Ive used her before with no problems, she is coming tomorrow but the vet is booked in for his jabs first thing wed morning so if she can not solve the prob it will be a vet job!!! He has has stifle problems 3 yrs ago but never behaved in this way!!!! Sorry just worried about my baby!!!! Also he was fine on thursday!!! No problems at all!!!
