Sorry this could be sappy! My loan horse has been getting me through some tough times atm with family bereavement, trying to complete an MA and working. Whenever I go up to see him everything just seems so much better and if I'm feeling particuarly down he seems more affectionate.

Was just wondering if anyone else finds horses therapy/comfort?

Haha tho I do realise there are days when we could throttle them - like when Paddy won't jump ditches... full stop!

Definately! My mare I feel does sense when I'm not feeling right and becomes quite affectionate (she isn't a particulary affectinate horse the rest of the time lol). She'll often hang her head over my shoulder, blowing and nuzzling when I've had a bad day. I'm sure they do pick up on our emotions!

i totally agree with you, when ive had a really bad day i see my horse and she cheers me up ,going to see her is like having my own little heaven

Oh absolutly, whenever life sucks all I need to do is go and cuddle Larry. He pushes his face against my chest (dropping his macho bully-boy image just coz I need him) for a hug when he knows i'm sad and the whole world then seems a better place! He's my baby and theres not much out there that means more to me than him.

Oh God yes the worst thing about having to retire my horse is that I dont have that special time anymore.

Even though we had problems from time to time he was my best friend and wierd or not he knew when I needed TLC and a bit of a fuss.

Definately! When my mum sold my horse @ age 16 I turned to drugs..lol..didn't have any horses for a few years after that but now I would NEVER give my horses up again..so you could say horses are addictive and that I've had a relapse!
