Horses at home, kids, husbands, housework, jobs.....

Ditto batch cooking, freezing, training OH and children, decluttering and having weekend/day off blitzes of filling haynets etc. We are building new stables ATM and are doing everthing with a view to keeping everything easy and low maintenance.

I also find myself doing housework late into the evening - when this happens stop, run a bath and hop in with a nice big G&T.

Fould you nip out and get ponies fed and turned out and mucked out before she's awake in the morning? or get up half hour earlier to do a bit of housework? use a baby monitor so you can hear her wake?

We have a little helper at the yard... she's only 2 and a half but she's good at filling up water buckets, mixing feeds and even mucking out! (she has her own little wheelbarrow, shavings fork and broom - so cute!) yes, she gets absolutely filthy but her little overalls prevent too much washing! lol! and she is so keen!

Thats the spirit~~~get the 4 year old working!!!!!!!! Mine were out there mucking in and out since tiny toddlers. What a nightmare~~~brings it all back.In particular daughter no1 "resting gently" face down in the mud when her wellies sunk!!!! The other one who managed to get the hoofpick wedged in her mouth~~yes all of it!!!! always has been a good feeder! Benefits however they are now 11 and 13 and can run the yard by themselves albeit with bad attitudes!!!!![/Q

Hahahaha !! that realy made me laugh !!!!

Could you turn them out 24/7 instead? This is the only way I've managed with 3 horses, dog, hubby, 18month litttle girl and hubby's 2 part time weekend children!!
I used to do all 3 on diy when my daughter was tiny but it was getting ridiculous and nothing got ridden so decided to put the wimpiest of them onto part livery and turn the other 2 out. The only one not ridden is because he's lame but the other two are regularly competing. The house is a tip but I think it's ok cos I make good cakes for everyone on the days I bugger off to comps lol!

Horsesforever1 - I actually do have an underactive thyroid. Just had my bloods checked and it's within normal limits with me on 100mcg of thyroxine. I don't feel like it should be tho. I fully expected that it'd need increasing!

I said somewhere earlier in the thread that I'd love to turn them out 24/7 but are location is so exposed it wouldn't be fair.

re idea turning them out.

We lived in SE England until shock horror move to Scotland 13 years ago. I could put my event horse out until Christmas down south with no worries but believe me cannot do this in Scotland. Not being soft but they would not cope at all well. We have tried to keep some of our lot out for as long as we can this year mainly in the interests of saving money and time. Nov 1st and we just have 3 welsh ponies out in wind and rain tonight with big rugs and hoods. Rest are already in for night and we have had a couple of mornings when weather has been so awful that lovely lazy children have left them for me to put out. My timesaver is keeping them with big heavyweight newzealands/hoods and putting a lightweight nz on top when they go out which just needs to be peeled off and cleaned when wet and muddy. Its amazing how much time it saves when you have a number of horses/ponies.

All the replies i have read are great! About the house, is it possible you can get a cleaner to come in for an hour or a two? It does cost money, but not getting it done proffesionaly can save £ (but you won't get insurance!).
When your daughter is a bit older it will become easier!

Oh I would love a cleaner but not sure a cleaner would love us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have actually been thinking about a cleaner! Our house is really old, talking 200 + years and is in a constant state of renovation. The bathroom is being done at the mo and the dust is everywhere. It's like fighting a losing battle! Hmmm, I may approach hubby about a cleaner but I wouldn't want folk to think I was being a lazy arse! (By folk, I mean MIL)!!

Think I maybe will get the thyroid re-checked and maybe haemoglobin and iron too as I feel so washed out!

((((((HUGS)))))))

mines been stable for years, but when we moved house and new docs they altered the dose. its taken 4 years to get right, they put me from 150 mg down to 75mg then up a bit then down then up..................in the end I was confused ( thyroid dementia) ,weak, tearful and fat and even put 2 of the horses up for sale because I couldnt manage, fortunately husband refused to sell. Then a new Doc came to the surgery,by this time they'd put it up so much (back to 150,a jump from 100mg) that I had palpitatons, brain working overtime, couldnt sleep, running round like a wound up mouse, I kid you not.......the new Doc took bloods and read the results thoroughly, I'm now stabalised at 125mg. Just dont forget to take them daily.
