Horses bred by Oscar

We have one in the yard just now, the first one we have had and although he is pretty bombprrof and straight forward to ride he is a little nervy. The first time I clipped him he stood completely tensed up, every time I turned the clippers off to clean and oil them he jumped when switched back on. He stood solid as a rock though, too poilte not to. I don't dope to clip as I usually don't have the luxury of the wear off time having 100 horses to clip a season at least 3 times each and I am assuming from his behaviour he was doped to be done before he came to us. He is a sensitive soul, doesn't like loud noises or boistrous behaviour but he doesn't have a bad bone in his body. He really wouldn't hurt a fly. He also has huge big proper feet, none of these silly boxy feet or flat feet that most TB's seem to have. He is also such a suck up. He loves his cuddles and his peace and quiet.
 
We have a 4yo by Oscar on the yard just now. He's a big lump of horse so has been given a bit of time to grow! He's very playful in the stable and he loves attention - would stand and let you brush him all day. He was pretty good to break as I recall, he can be a bit cheeky and 'humpy' (he dumped me not so long ago) but he picks up on things pretty quickly and his canter is to die for! He's a really nice stamp of horse, looks like a real old school chaser type - can't wait to see him run when he gets to that stage!

Sounds just like my young chap, big chaser type, not brave but very friendly and loveable, and a bit 'humpy' too :)

I'm quite interested in how their parentage affects their personalities... nature/nurture etc...
 
Quite alot of them have had to be operated on for their wind...AFAIK Oscar himself was done a couple of times. We have had a few of them. All nice but a bit quirky as they got fitter. One was very cold backed with everyone bar me...he dropped my fairly unmoveable OH and broke both his collar bones in one week yet I never had him so much as curl his back up. We sold him as while he would have been a perfect horse for me to ride in races and learn the ropes we could never 100% trust him at home. He wasn't nasty, just inclined to odd behaviour and having spoken to the guy who broke Oscar that is fairly typical of him too. The lad we sold we told them everything bout him and he is in a small yard and given loads of attention and is thriving on it. Has won and placed since he went there and we think dropping back in trip in pointing in the UK has helped big time too. They are generally big good looking horses with a nice step but I am very wary of them given how many of them need their wind operated on.
 
That's interesting, my boy has just come out of racing because he was too slow (could be wind related i guess??) and is well known for having a good buck when he's worried...

I am hoping that coming to my yard where it is nice and quiet and he will get lots of fuss and one2one attention that he will settle and be a nice hunter for me! I really like him :) fingers crossed eh?!

Well in my experience they really develop through being one person horses and the few we have had seem much more "girl horses". I have also never yet sat on one that is a bad jumper so you should have fab fun hunting him. The guy that we sold to the UK apparently fell in love with hunting when he was being qualified and now hunts between races for fun! Best of luck with him...and pics please! I'm assuming big handsome dark bay chaser type...
 
He is indeed big dark and handsome, and very much a chaser type - got a lot of growing/filling out still to do as he's only 6 but he's gorgeous :)

I'll post pic's once i've got him settled and worked out how to!!
