When I bought my mare she was two. I thought she was black with lighter points until I gave her a bath and realised she was a very dark brown. When she shed her winter coat she was darkish bay with very small black socks and lightish points. Over the years she has got lighter and lighter - her points are now gold and her summer coat is golden/bay and her winter coat is bay.
Her legs are now almost totally black - now she's losing her winter coat her the black on her back legs is starting to extend up to her tail in patches... She gets lighter every year and her points have a very pale gold colour in them.
I know some breeds change colour as they age but is she going to stop at some point? Her colours are now totally different to her ID thing on the passport!!

Happens to them all, they change coat colours up until they are about 4(i believe??) which is when you get a good idea of their true colour, unlesss of course they are grey, roan etc and this changes every yr,my lad was very dark bay as a yearling and is now bright bay!!

Winter coat is always a completely diff colour,my lad still goes dark bay in the winter and he is 12!!

My mare goes balck in the winter and white in the summer! It really is like two different ponies...

My lad is jet black in the winter and then goes almost liver chestnut in the summer months! Completely different horse!

I rode a piebald that was grey by the age of 11 and my RS also had a chestnut and a black who both went grey. My buckskin changes colour depending on the season

My coloured cob is piebald in winter and skewbald in summer (brown, black and white). It surprises many people on the yard as 'hairys' like him are quite rare here and he always seems to turn heads and provoke questions....

I was looking thru some old pictures of her when she was 4 and since then the light points have expanded (obvisouly she's grown) but they are def getting bigger...? It's coz I originally wanted a black mare...
