Horses coming with tack and rugs "expected"?

Doesn't influence my decision in any way. Think it depends what you're selling as tbh. I bought a horse that came with temporary loan of the rug on his back and that was it who I promptly got tack for and a less scabby turnout rug (already had some stable rugs kicking about in right size), another who came with just tack (again rugs bought fairly swiftly and actually had my saddle stolen not long after bought the horse so ended up with a nice new saddle too) and one who came with tack, boots, rugs the lot. (Trouble was the saddle didn't fit and had great fun replacing it, half the rugs were knackered by my standards and most of the boots I knew I wouldn't use, still the bridle was nice and a some of the rugs were decent!). My first pony was sold on with tack and rugs because of what she was sold as and tbh if I sold current horse I'd send the bridle and some of the rugs (ie the ones that he came with that are still useable) but the saddle is MINE! (has a leather tree so quite adjustable in what it will fit and will have very good re-sale value if not). Don't think it would put me off either way, as you can see from my experience people very rarely send their best stuff with the horse they're selling anyway unless they're totally giving up (and even then they may hang onto the really nice stuff to sell on separately) so it's no great loss to me to invest in stuff that I know I will like and that will fit. In case you were wondering (probably not) the horse that came with nothing was the best of the three.

My first horse came with a stable rug and an Indian leather bridle (which was instantly binned although still have rug after 13 years!). Second horse came with absolutely nothing, not even a headcollar or anything. At first she was the poor relation as she got all the hand-me-downs from my old horse, poor soul.

It used to be quite common for advertisers to comment on whether the horse came with tack or not. Seems to me that of late/past few years, this is not the case.

No. Never been given anything when I bought a horse and never given anything when I have sold. I have accumulated a good selection of bits which has been very useful over the years, horses tend to be the same size so rugs are kept. Tack..very fussy about my saddles so normally arrange for my lovely saddler to come out ASAP to see if my saddles fit or I need to start again.

My mare came with nothing & I didn't ask for anything. My late gelding was bought as a foal so he came with nothing either. My welsh d before him I think came with a headcollar & leadrope and we had bought his saddle at extra cost as it had been fitted for him and was nice (still have it). I don't expect the horse to come with anything and quite enjoy buying everything for them... although it would be handy to have a lot more money for this lol. Like a previous poster has said, my mare has had to put up with a lot of hand me downs but is slowly acquiring her own personal wardrobe :)

Pinto came with a saddle, bridle and a saddle pad. All of which were quickly donated to my RS and I bought new. Blitz and Tartine came with nothing, not even head collars, and I didn't expect anything to come with them.

It's slightly different in France though, where your would have one saddle and plonk it on whichever horse you are riding.

No I wouldn't but if tack etc did come it would be a bonus, but I would still want to get a saddle fitter to check fit before using it.

This for me too. I think only 2 of mine have ever come with tack that I can think of (neither saddles fitted so I ended up selling them and buying new ones) and funnily enough the only two horses who I was gifted came with a few rugs which was lovely. But generally, I would never expect anything with the horse except maybe a headcollar and leadrope. Anything that does come is a bonus. I used to love getting a new horse as it meant a shopping spree, but nowadays because I've had quite a few horses over the years - I have pretty much everything I need and extra's (you know how you "collect" stuff over the years!) so I no longer need to do the spree bit which is a bit dull!

Whenever I've sold a horse, it really depends on the horse. I've just put a horse out on permanent loan and he went only with rugs and a headcollar/leadrope, no tack as I use it on my other two horses (and my WOW is way too expensive to give away for free!). I have given tack in the past though, if the horse is hard to fit or something and I have no need for the equipment.

I would not expect horse to come with tack. The only time I've sent a horse with something is when I know that I wont need it for next potential horse purchase, or if I have another horse at the time.

I once was selling a horse very cheaply, as we just didn't get on. The amount of cheeky people that asked if the horse came with a full wardrobe when it was for sale for £500 was unreal.

I like the price that I have been told to be the price of the horse. I don't want to look at something priced £3,000 but actually find that the owner has priced the horse at £2,500 but is including all tack, rugs, boots etc. If they're offering stuff to go with it, excellent, I can have a look and make up my own mind but don't want to pay for things which I might need to replace anyway
