I don't really agree with the generalisation Barton, what I will say though is that some horses definitely prefer one sex to the other. I prefer mares and both mine dote on me.
Fortunately Bonnie came from a very good (showing and competition breeder) home and has never been mistreated.
Belle is different being a yearling meat market rescue from France I can imagine she has been handled quite roughly in her first year, she is a little skittish to handle at times and doesn't like shouting and hates whips but loves her humans.
I feel there are quite a lot of 1 person horses who respond far better to 'their human' than say Joe Bloggs off the street. Anyone can ride Bonnie and Belle but they definitely perform better when I am in the saddle than say my Mum or Boyfriend.
