Murphy thinks they do! He has just come charging across the field and into the shelter because it has started raining
grin.gif
Others are grazing happily not in the least bothered.

Mine does, and won't go out if it's coming down in torrents

She takes a two pronged attack if you try and put her out in it she will either a) try and kill you on the way to the field by bucking / rearing / running sideways or if you get her as far as field b) trot up and down the fence "suggesting" that she might just jump the gate......

For the sake of my health, happiness and bank balance - its easier just to leave her in with a haynet

Mine LOVES the rain! he cant wait get out on a rainy morning! Don't your lot know that rain= mudd= rolling= fun fun fun only for the horse obvs! rain means a heck of a lot of brushing on my part, how do they always manage to get mud right up their necks even with a neck cover on!?

I was tempted to leave my boy in today as he looked a bit chilly this morning. I settled for pushing his electric fence out a bit so he's got some yummy grass to keep him occupied though!

Mine thinks she may well disolve!

She gets a "princessy" and walks up to the back fields behind me trying to put her head up my coat. (Fair enough if she was a little pony but a 16.3hh sticking its head up the back of your coat....jjjeeeeessss! )

Mine lives out at this time of year. Got there this morning to find her waiting by the gate for her breakfast. She didn't seem impressed to be out there! If we get the torrential rain which is forecast for today, I think she'll be having a night in her stable. She won't be impressed with that either, but her field has no shelter at all (not even a tree!), and all of my rugs are in for cleaning so she doesn't even have a dry rug to put on

mine definitely doesn't - he's a TB but thinks he's a native.
He had almost 6 months box rest so making up for it now. He's still on restricted turnout on his own, small paddock but that will do him. YM went to check him in a storm in case he wanted to come in and was happily grazing in the middle of his paddock not even trying to shelter under the trees.

i left mine in last night as ours are out at night atm and its only because all the rest were in and the field is like a pond

(HELLLO WHERES SUMMER??) that she stayed in cause she'd live out 24/7 if i'd let her, but shes turn into a huge fatty in a matter of days, so shes in with some hay today wondering why non of her mates want to play out, cause its only abit of water!!
grin.gif
haha

Having grafted so hard through winter, you'd think we'd get a break over summer? but noooo, had to muck out at 630 this morning because its not stopped raining for weeks!!

Che thinks they do too!! It's good exercise for him though, whenever it starts to rain he dashes back to the far side of his field to hide under the trees until it stops. Big wimp

Mine is made of icing sugar so yes, he would melt in the rain

No, they don't melt in the rain but mine has his LW TO on while out overnight because I am fed up of trying to get mud off him! He is also trying desperately to grow his winter coat and as it's far too early to clip, I am hoping that the rug might stop that behaviour
grin.gif

Mine is fine. I've brought him in a couple of nights when its been bad, but that's probably more to make me feel better.
I've got my fingers crossed it won't be as bad as they say as I'm meant to be going xc schooling tonight,

Mine is out 24/7 with access to a field stable...but he never uses it in the rain so he can get wet without melting...whilst he still has weight to loose he will be fine out in my opinion and it gives his hair a rinse!

Mine's also out 24/7 with a field shelter but never uses it.

I wouldn't even consider rugging my young, fit horse but it amazes me at the number who are.

It might make him grow even more!

Please dont say that i can only just get on him now.

I am sitting here reading all this and the rain is pelting down outside and now I wish I had left the TB LW rug on. She gets it on every night anyway as is starting to fluff up (thin skinned TB). Hopefully will be able to get her in later after work and dry her, rug her and turn her back out. I know the other one wont be bothered.

Well my grazing was partly under water this morning
Heart in mouth but all sheep sitting high and dry under large beech tree
Horses quite happy--I felt guilty when rain was lashing at 1am this morning
It is hot here and more rain forecast--think they might come in tonight in case river rises even more

LOL this was what I was saying to myself last night when I brought my girly in and she has stayed in today because it is due to be pants about 3 ish. However, being a TB she does seem to melt in the rain as all the hard gained weight falls off. She wasn't arguing though when I brought her in... she dived straight into her stable and started to eat her net.... I think she was hungry!

Ours are all out naked, plenty of natural shelter in their field. If it keeps on like it is now through the evenng as it is forecast to do then they will most probably come into the yard tonight to give them a bit of a break from it.

My horse is out naked because he's 75% ID and he's fat.

Nuff said.

I don't really think anything bad of horses with rain sheets on but I do smile to myself smugly that they wont feel the benefit (like me old nan says) when it starts to get really cold.

Our two are in lightweight turnouts, the welshie has sweet itch so is in a sweet itch hoody and although he can cope with the wet normally the sweet itch rug gets soaked and makes him shiver.

The TB is rugged as we have had to fasten off the shelter (they still have hedges) so the welshie doesn't rub :rollseyes We did try separating them with the TB in the half with the yard and shelter but they kept barging the blooming electric fencing down to get to each other ending up with the tb's leg in a mess
frown.gif

They seem happy as Larry in their lightweights now though, and the half of the field with the yard in it is recovering nicely for winter.

My Arab is in a lightweight rug and has a field shelter dont want him fluffy as have 2 big shows coming up.. My 75% ID mare is fat and out naked as is my yearling filly but she shares a field shelter with my Arab, I have however been giving them hay in the shelter as its been so cold and wet here, and they have been eating it.

Mine are out all year round but have a field shelter in the summer. They're not really fans of the rain despite being M&M breeds and tend to rush over and crowd into the shelter or under the trees when it starts pouring. They're all unrugged and will remain so until the winter (yes, I'm an evil horse-mum!)

As soon as hubby gets in, I'm heading up to the yard to see if the tb wants to come in, if he makes a beeline for me and dives into his headcollar I know thats a signal to be in
grin.gif

If he looks at me in disgust and goes back to grazing, that is exactly where he'll stay!
