horses eating bedding

My mare is a pain for eating her straw bed. Is there any kind of spray i can buy to stop her doing this? I was thinking of changing to shavings but the price in my area is ridiculous. I have heard of people using dettol mixed with water but wondered if this actually works and would it be harmfull if the horse started eating it?
 
if thinking of shavings you should maybe consider Aubiose type hemp bedding. Its 6x more absorbant, doesnt stick to your clothes or rugs and you just pour it out the bag unlike shavings which take ages to get fluffy if the bag is properly full. Per bag its a bit more than shavings but Ive saved loads of £££ because I use a quarter as much. Its much more stable, the wet stays where it is not kicked around. I even use it for the hens!
 
If you just spray some dettol on top of it, or you can buy bitter apple spray to prevent crib biting available from pet shops to prevent dogs/puppies chewing - probably cheaper than a equestrian shop too! Not being funny but does she have access to ad lib hay/haylage. If she is not receiving enough fibre in her diet she will eat her bedding!
 
Yes i have looked at using auboise or something similar.I have used easy bed in the past when i had my other horse who was filthy in the stable and i was really pleased with the results a much cleaner stable and the urine soaks to the bottom of the bed keeping the top layer dry. I suppose it would save money in the long run. Straw is messy to muck out especially is you have a mucky horse and you can go through a lot of straw plus your clothes end up smelling of urine..
 
if the horse has enough hay or haylage and bucket food it will rarely eat its bed,unless an absolute pig!!! is the horse in Q hungry? lacking in fibre? if plenty of hay/haylege on offer i would spray straw with dilute jeyes fluid.][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][[p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-

. I've had to abandon an attempt to bed him on Bedrap (chopped rape straw) as he thought it was yum. Sadly, ad lib is not an option. tried it for 6 weeks last winter . His stomach got so large that my physio advised a change in diet as he was starting to be at risk of kissing spines.

Tried spraying dilute jeyes and this mad no difference to him.
