What were they like before - full feathers? It's difficult to see from the pictures whether they've been cut without knowing what they were like before. I can't imagine horse thieves would bother doing that - in the time it'd take to cut the feathers they could have stolen the horse!

Very weird. You don't show at a decent level and have any 'enemies' in the competitive world do you? Seems a very bizarre thing for someone to do. I would have suggested he/she'd had a good old rubbing session maybe but would be a bit hard to have done all legs! Very odd and annoying if you're a feathered leg fan.

My friend had a similar situation with her fell cob, his feathers where shaved/cut(very well with scissors) around the hoof with some feathers left so you wouldn't notice. We still have no idea who did it

Those are not cut, they have been rubbed. It is on the inside of the leg by the look of the photo. Ditto mites.
As far as thieves doing it, why the hell would they want to do something that will make the horse less attrative to their would be market?

it is annoying :(, and no i dont compete him at all :/

what's the fencing/hedging like, could she have got them caught up and either pulled free, and breaking the hair or someone passing had to cut her out?? Both are possibilities, otherwise, if she's stomping her feet alot it could be feather mites and she's taken to chewing them herself, therefore thining and breaking the hair?

sorry if i sound stupid, but what do i look for to check if does have mites? and if he does have them how do i get rid of them?
And fencing is pretty basic, wooden post with metal squares in the middle ( sorry about lack of description, dont know how else to describe it :p!)

Hi

I cut my horses feathers this week and these do not look cut. Cut will have very straight edges. These look more like they have been rubbed or stepped on even? Mites you need to have a good delve into the feather and will find grey soft bits(looks like soft rolls of dirt/flakes). If you look further in there will be a red area that will look wet(approx 5mm diameter). These are field/harvest mites. Usually the horse will stamp its foot on the ground very quickly if they have mites too

There was a post on here in the last couple of days regarding treatments.

That doesn't look cut to me. It looks much more like the effects of rubbing. Are you saying that this happened overnight? If the horse truly had full feathers less than 24 hours ago, it does look rather dramatic.
