If you had £5500 to spend on a horse what would you expect them to be able to do for that amount of money?

Not a trick question honest but we are looking at the moment and are finding such a difference in some horses for the same money I was wondering what other people on here thought.

For me personally I would want them to have potential to do quite a lot, but not have done much of it ;) That is because if it is "established" at 5.5k, I wouldn't expect it to be competitive enough at the levels I would want it to be...

However, looking at hores for sale at the moment, I can see why there may be MASSIVE differences in waht you are seeing for that money!

From some of the rubbish I've been seeing for 5.5 you can either get a horse that can jump but no dressage or a horse that can do dressage but rubbish jump or a younger horse 5/6 that does both but neither as established.

I would prefer to go for the younger horse with potential. Ohh yeah and if you want a talented horse but calm they don't exist! People say the market is a buyers market atm but I really don't think it is there isn't a lot around and everyone is being way to greedy.

I would put our boy at that, 15.1 6yrs, 2 placings at BE, has won his first BN and does a really nice test, the groundwork done but with room for improvement.

I was looking in this price bracket recently - I wanted a particular breed, kind temperament and good conformation. In terms of education, the horse I bought had essentially been backed and turned away.

KatB - See I am the opposite, I personally would like to see that the horse can already do what I will want as I am not looking at the horse to go on to great things - just a nice allrounder type (Too old for serious competition nowadays!) I don't mind if a little green but would like to see some sort of competition record for £5.5k

Kokopelli - Yes I agree with you, have seen one or two really attractive horses that have good competition records in either SJ or DR for the money but have also seen some very plain unschooled not done much types that are never going to be world beaters for the same money.

Jrp204 - Yes that's what I would think would be a fair price too (Make him a hand bigger and I have the money waiting!!)

Depurple1 - See thats why I wonder if sometimes I am out of touch with prices as I am looking for the same but would need it to be more than backed and turned away!

I am very surprised by the difference in prices for horses and how different people I talk to see their horses values or is this just usual life in general!

i would expect a young horse with loads of potential and proved to some ectent or As i brought an older horse who can do a lot of everything quite well or one or two things very well
