horses for the mounted police

hi i have an over 17 hand chesnut gelding 5 yr old and was speaking to a friend the other day wondering what to do with him and was told that the mounted police often snap up horses of his size. He hasnt done much but is very quiet and riding nicely. Does anyone know how to get in touch with them and if they would be interested and also how much they buy horses for? Thanks horsebob

Maybe try to get in contact with your local mounted branch? Im sure someone on here could tell you which is closest if you arent sure

Hi pm me with details and your number and i will pass on your details i work for merseyside mounted and we are looking for horses at the minute we have got 3 ready to retire in the next weel or too and also got contacts with manchester force cheers H

Where do they go to? Are they ridden still or just turned away or something? I would imagine they would make great happy hackers or riding club horses for someone. Are they sold or loaned out (or neither)?

they are fully loaned out to either someone from work that wants them, if there isnt anyone then we look at members of the public that want one or send them to retirement home.
We have got 2 that can still be ridden just used for hacking really now and one that is going to ILPH to live out and just play in the field

Ooh I used to ride an ex-merseyside police horse, he was brilliant, but not a quiet ride (got chucked out for that) - his owner had bought him from them though...?

My friend works in the mounted section at Manchester so I'll ask her. I know they are looking for suitable horses. Personally, I wouldn't want one of mine going to the police but that's just me. I'll PM you when I find out.
