Horses Fouling On The Pavements In Portslade

"Hey DarrenUK1972, I have a problem, I wonder if you could help? I often see roundabouts in Macclesfield where people totally neglect to indicate on roundabouts. You are a car driver, why do they do this? It is totally unreasonable! Why on earth are they using a roundabout if they have no control over their indicators? You car drivers are also rude around horses."

See, as silly as you berating me for some random horse rider in Brighton and Hove. I don't know anyone in that area. I am not in charge of all horse riders. Come to that, I've never heard of anyone on here being from Portslade.

No one says leaving a poo on the pavement is acceptable.

I am interested as to just how big the poo was though, if you have to climb over the wall as opposed to step over the poo. Maybe it was an elephant's dropping?

As to the difference between a motorway and an A road, big difference. Horses are allowed on A roads, not on motorways. You say there is no safe refuge on the A road, maybe that is why they are using the tunnel?

In reality though, I have no idea. It is like me asking you why men like football or something, you may (or may not, come to that) be a man but I don't expect you to know the thoughts of all men.

It seems some people need to grow up and stop being so stupid over this matter with sarcasm and finding it funny. How would you people feel if you find a pile of horse's crap right outside your garden gate if you live in a house where you have to climb over your wall to leave and to get back?
If the pile is too large for you to access your own property, may I respectfully suggest that it is unlikely that it was a passing horse. Have you upset someone?

As others have suggested, maybe you are targeting the wrong audience Darren.
Nothing worse than getting a bollocking for something someone else did.
The only way to cure problems like this is to find out who the culprit is then make it a problem for them.
( ie place the poop somewhere that it becomes an inconvenience for them)
Sorry that posting here probably made you feel worse..but we are not guilty of this particular crime.😇

How big was the horse 😲😲😲 ?

I wouldn't care Darren, because I'm a horse owner and I pick the stuff up for fun. But if you do care, then why are you wasting more of your time on this forum instead of finding out your local equestrian Facebook site, or visiting the nearby livery stables?

This is nothing to do with us. We don't even seem to have any members in that area and if we did it still wouldn't be likely to have been those particular riders.

I haven’t read all replies and things are probably going downhill but OP is absolutely right. Any of you who have ever tried to get a pushchair or a disabled person anywhere know how difficult pavements are, without muck everywhere.
But I do agree with ycbm that a local page would probably be better for a targeted audience.

Wait first you're walking down the road and now you can't leave your house 🤔

Are you sure someone wasn't just dropping off a cake ?Screenshot_20230725-074559-252.png
I'm not sure climbing over the wall to avoid horse poop will be understood by many on her who wade through it on a daily basis.

Ps I agree horses shouldn't be on the pavements except in exceptional circumstances but let's not have a fit of the vapours.

Darren posted on an 8 year old thread. I don't believe he said it had been a problem for 8 years.

This might not be the best place for him to have posted but I think he has probably got the message by now.

I'm not sure I could bring myself to eat that !

@luckyoldme it's very good isn't it, the horse has been on the spring grass a bit. I'm not sure I trust the fork either.

To be fair the OS map suggests the tunnel is in fact a footpath, interesting there are a surprising amount of bridleways in the centre of Portslade (I like maps and am off work). I'm just struggling to picture a tunnel that a man can walk through the a horse can't 🤔

Always amuses me how much more cross people get about the little local spats compared to wider issues. Reminds me of that Council meeting that went viral!

A little Googling reveals an ongoing horse muck spat (splat?) in Portslade, since at least 15 years ago , mostly played out in letters to the local paper between a certain Local Councillor ('Hazards Of Horse Manure') and various locals who like the 'old village feel' of horses passing their houses .

There are three livery yards the other side of Shoreham bypass from the town. There is a nice circular hack southwards into the town via Benfield valley nature reserve, along a few quiet residential roads including those mentioned by OP, then back up to the bypass via Southwick hill.

Possibly no connection of course but interestingly the Local Council is now seeking to sell a big bit of the Benfield Valley reserve for housing and is facing a lot of opposition.

An A road, a motorway, what is the difference? They are still very busy roads with no pavements at the sides.

There's a huge difference between the A27 running past Portslade and the M1 ;)

I take it you're aware that Foredown Road is a bridleway Darren? Therefore horses are allowed on it, and allows horse riders to cross the A27 without playing ball with the traffic?

I said upthread that if my horse did a poo on the pavement, I would move it, and poo on the pavement I still would. However, if this is a multi user path, as in a bridle way, then I would not move the poo.

If you don't know the difference between an A road and a motorway, then you have a bigger problem than a bit of horse muck on a pavement.

I know of a good many A roads with two or three lanes in each direction that have pavements and pedestrian-controlled crossings.

I challenge you to find those features on any motorway in the UK.
