Has anybody ever adopted a horse from them?
Now we are at our new yard and have space for another, I've been having a little nosey on their site and seen 2 that sound like they'd fit in well.
I understand they put the horses out as a loan before agreeing to sign over ownership if both parties are happy.
I like the thought of having that back up and somewhere for the horse to safely go back to if things did not work or circumstances were to change (not that I forsee either but life does like to throw the unexpected).
At the moment I have not fully decided if I will apply to have a horse from them (or a third in general) but I am dabbling with the idea and would love to help out a rescue pony.
Just wondering if anyone has experience with the Blue Cross at all?

Yes - have a horse which I took on as a short term loan and still have her 5 years later! I’m currently likely to take on full ownership. BC have been great through the whole process, current contact in particular is great - sensible and supportive and always available at the end of the phone.

I know of someone, their experience was not quite as positive, I would not have given a just backed 4yo to a novice child and it was not a successful pairing. Having said that, the beauty of it is that they could send the pony back, and the child was bought a more suitable mount.

Thanks for the replies.
Good to hear positives and negatives.

They have offered me to go down and meet the ponies. There are 2 I like but they've also suggested another too.
So I might take them up on that and go and meet them and see how I feel then, see if the ponies like me etc.
I can be nervous at times so I need to be sure that I'd be taking on the right pony where we would bond well, I don't want to make a rash decision so need to be logical about it all. Because if I do take one on, I'd like it to be a very long term thing.

Oh, and to add, the rehoming centre is actually not too far from me, I'm in the West Mids/Staffs/Shropshire borders and the centre is Staffs, so I can always pop along more than once to meet the perspective newbie.

Interesting post as if I need a new pony in the future I would like one from BC or simular. I am of an age and with no family I would like to know anything I take on would have a safe future when I am no long able or here to look after it.

Hi Harriet from captain, didn't know you were on the forum!

Also a blue cross adopter, had him signed over this year. Originally filled out a generic form, went to meet suggested pony fell in love and have had him for three and a half years now .

How does the initial meeting go?

They've offered me an appointment on Thursday and have asked me to bring a hat and gloves (although the ponies are companion only) and I'm starting to feel a bit nervous. I'm worried the staff or the ponies won't like me and nervous in case they decide they don't want me to take one of their horses.

Don't be nervous, they will make you feel at home, reason for hat and gloves even for a non ridden or project is they will get you to handle a horse or pony, its all down to health and safety. They are all really nice just enjoy the day x
