Is this good news or not. Good news for the ones selling the animals of course. Wonder what will happen to them when they get to the end of their competitive career.

I can remember the same fears when Irish horses started to be exported in high numbers to the Middle East, as everyone wondered if they would end up pulling quarry carts. What DID happen to them?

A relative of mine lived there. She took her daughter to a riding school. One day she was horrified to see a pony down with a bad colic. when she approached the owner about this, demanding he got it medical attention...the owner's comment was:
"Don't worry, we'll have a new pony next week".
Clearly values are very different in China, life, human and animal is cheap.

Just look at the story in the Mail yesterday
I am alarmed to say the least about things about to happen in the sports horse market,,,,,,,

I honestly wouldn't sleep at night if I knew any of mine had gone there.
Their animal welfare is totally appalling; they just don't see a problem in either not treating or doing so with very barbaric methods. They have state of the art animal hospitals there but still practice an archaic treatments because it's what they've always done, they have no idea about empathy towards an animal, even those kept at the vet colleges are subject to very poor care but the daft thing about it is every vet student is made to learn to ride while there; that's the only thing that should be practiced here.

I too am disturbed by this. I refused to sell one of my youngsters to Spain for Endurance because I was concerned about her long term future. If I switch on my brain I think there are thousands of examples of cruelty and neglect in the UK and the rest of Europe.

We come back to the question do you breed for passion or for profit at any cost?
