Horses in or out on bonfire night?.

Mine are in at nights now anyway so are in. Feel a lot happier that they are in, especially as I have a mare who is liable to jump out if she gets stressed out!

Mine have ALWAYS been out. Our fild i surrounded 360% with fireworks near and far, and they just seem to love watching them for a while, then get bored. Not once in my life have I had one bothered for a moment by fireworks.

We make many animals, dogs/cats/horses worried by fussing. Ignore the fireworks and the animals, no loud music or extra petting etc, they soon realise there is nothing to bother about.

I wish that was the case! :( I was pretty smug until this year (dogs and all previous horses don't even notice) when it turns out my new one hates them. We're on 3 vet visits so far :(

If only that were true, my poor lurcher would not have spent her last 3 novembers terrified-She was fine until she was 4 not bothered at all and for the last 2 years she was terrified of thunderstorms too and that had never bothered her before at all

turned mine out at 10pm when hopefully most of the fireworks will be gone, mine are a very calm lot and used to the bangs of a haulage yard next door so doubt it would bother them much anyway. as for my poor cat, he's terrified :(

If it helps anyone, my two have free choice of stables or field. When my mum when to check on them last night during the worst of the fireworks (of her own accord!) they were happily grazing in the field, not bothered in the slightest.

Sorry but don't agree. Five horses on the yard, no different treatment for any of them. Three are completely oblivious, one is a bit twitchy and mine is scared stiff. I've adjusted routine this year by leaving out with companion and hay and putting on a calmer and he is coping much better but he is still quite worried by the noise. I have also had five dogs over the years - always at least two at a time. I had one who was scared, one who liked watching by standing front feet up on windowsill and one who used to hide for the duration. Of the current two, one is scared stiff and will not set foot outside the door after dark and the other doesn't give a hoot - no difference in the way we treat either of them. The one who is scared is also scared of gas guns, guns and clanging farm machinery.

My view is that all animals are different and react differently to outside stimuli. There is no "one size fits all" answer.

I am another that doesn't agree. We play it down yet both my dogs managed to escape last night, one was killed on the road by a truck, one ran amongst the fireworks (at the organised display on an adjacent field) in front of the crowd who could only look on helplessly. Devastated is not the word, you can NEVER be too careful, too attentive or too cautious - both dogs ran blindly away from the safety of home

My horses like to watch the fireworks and are completely unfazed by the noise. They live out anyway so stay out. Their fields back onto a gun shop/range so they are very used to bangs and sudden noises. My dogs on the other hand are terrified. They are both springers and bred to be working dogs but they hate noise. They usually stay in the kitchen but come into the lounge with us when fireworks are going off. My cats aren't bothered either but one of them is completely deaf. I have tried everything with my dogs but nothing I can do about their fear.

I'm so sorry Welsh d
I have 9 dogs. Only two are terrible with fireworks. All mine react differently. I don't believe it is down to People fussing at all.

My horses came in for the night because it was due to rain all night

I'm so sorry Welsh D. I also don't agree that's it's us. I've had 3 dogs throughout my life and treated them all the same. 2 have been fine but one was a wreck. He was also terrible with thunder storms - we always knew when one was coming because he'd start shaking and whining half an hour before it started. How we could create this, when we didn't know a storm was coming is beyond me.

Our horses last night wouldn't come in for their tea because they were mesmerised by the fireworks, all 9 of them lined up watching. The field is at the top of the hill which has uninterrupted views in 3 directions towards fairly large centres of population (all about 5 miles away) so they had quite the display.
