Wow, what a day!!
We were on our way to a fun ride and had just left our yard. About 2 miles from our yard is a small hump-backed bridge that goes over a canal, there are horses kept in the fields thats surround the canal. We saw that 2 of the horses were IN the canal!
There was a ramp from their field into the canal that was not fenced off, so it was easy to see how they'd got in!
We pulled over to see if we could help. The owners (2 men) were there, dressed in suits! One was half heartedly shaking a bucket of food at them to try to tempt them up the ramp to get out, the other man was chucking bits of tree at the to try to make them move in the right direction!
My friend crossed the canal at the lock and took the bucket of food and began really trying to tempt them. We tried to stop them going the wrong way. Lunge line etc were found, and a headcollar and leadrope. They were only youngsters - maximum of 2 years old I reckon and I don't think they'd been halter-trained though as it just panicked them. Both horses had cuts on the parts of their legs we could see - I dread to think what their legs were like under the water!
We were getting no where fast. We were there for 45 mins, and no-one seemed to know how long they'd been in there. Both horses were shivering. In the end the fire brigade were called so we let the professionals do their job. When we returned later the horses were grazing in the field, but the ramp that lead into the canal from their field STILL had not been fenced off!!
What would you do?

What would you do?
- Leave it - they're not your horses so mind your own business!
- Keep your eye on it and if it happens again notify someone - if so, who?
