horses in the wind

Mine is usually on her toe's in the wind and generally a bit spooky but today she was a very good girl!

Two of mine (both mares!) are one wouldn't walk for a friend for an entire hack yesterday even though two of my others were plodding along sensibly beside, it may be because she is a TB though and is hyper one day and a donkey the next!

Same as anything else really, you have to train them to get used to it so they realise it wont hurt them. Having said that i dont ride when it is really, really windy. Just in case!

Mine was awful in the wind today

I actually think it is more the fact that it affects his hearing. When it isn't windy, he can hear rabbits & birds in the hedges, and cars coming. He knows where they are coming from, and how soon they are likely to arrive!

When it's windy, he can't hear all this so well, so tends to be surprised by everything, and it makes him jumpy. That's just my opinion!

An amount of wind is very beneficial for getting my horse to humble her joie de vivre and concentrate but indoors she's a nightmare if it's all clangy and rattly!

In strong winds she turns herself inside out & is generally not very rideable unless we're on the beach when she's always a loon anyway!

Mine is spooky in the wind but not too bad. He tends to think a monster is going to jump out on him, especially from behind bins!! He usually just jogs though, But today i had a mates horse to do as she went away, on the way to the field, he spooked, went behind me, reared and knee'd me in the back!! Ouch...

Thats all i needed (see my post horse pulling), poor me lol
