I am a complete numpty when it comes to trailers etc but could you fit a 16.3hh heavyweight IDX and a 17.2hh TBX into a standard Ifor Williams trailer?

Reason I ask is that a couple of us are hoping to go to jumpcross and they reckon I'll get Jack into the trailer with this other horse - I'm not so sure but maybe I just overestimate his size. It would be pulled by a Freelander as well.

I know someone who fits a 16.2 TB and an 18hh Warmblood (sounds huge I know but it really is that big) into an Ifor Williams. I'd be worried about the towing weight?

My 16.3hh went in my Ifor Williams 505 - just. I think it may be a bit of a squeeze for a 17.2Hh though to be honest.

I would be really concerned about towing with a Freelander I'm afraid.

I think the Freelander would struggle - I hear they're not the best for towing any more than 1 horse... I'd be concerned about the weight limit of both car and trailer (and also about the horses banging their heads because the Ifor 510 is not enormous generous with head room for anything over 17hh.

a freelander has a towing allowance of 1800kg, given that the horses both each would weigh about 700kg (min), please do not attempt this.

It would b ok with a heavier towing vehicle.

It's possible to squeeze them both in a 510 (just)

Definately not recomended to tow with a Freelander though.
I personally wouldn't risk my horses safety!

I wouldn't, when Jack did his B test the examiner refused to use Duke for loading into an Ifor 505 and he's only 16.2 (although they are recommended as suitable for upto 16.2), also if its the old Freelander it isn't really upto towing 2 horses

id be worried about pulling with a freelander with that weight in the back. my freeland can pull a 13h pony and a 16.3 horse, but i would not put 2 big horses in together even if the trailer was big enough

A 505 is no way big enough for a 17.2.................. my 16.1's ears tuched the roof and he had to duck to get out when I tried him in one, needless to say he never went anywhere in it!

The 510 is much bigger, as is the rice beaufort 60

We tow an 18hh and 17.2 in a pegusus equestrian and tow with a land cruiser. I wouldn't attempt with a freelander it just wouldnt have the stopping power (or the pulling power come to that!)

My 16.2 ears fold over in a ifor 505. My YO 17.2 kicked out the back of her ifor 505 because he quite obviously did not fit in it!! I would not tow two big horses with a freelander.

Please, please don't do it. For one thing if its an HB505 they're only recommended for up to 16.2. My horse is 16.2 and I wouldn't dream of putting him in a 505 - I have a 510 and he can still bend his ears on the roof :-). Secondly a Freelander just is not safe to tow that kind of weight!!! And I don't care how many 'Freelander supporters' may refute this. I wouldn't tow ONE horse with one, never mind two big ones such as you're talking about. They are small, gutless and lightweight and cannot hold a trailer steady on the road if it should start to snake for any reason.

If weren't at the other end of the UK I'd come and tow you myself rather than have you take this risk.

No chance in hell will you get 2 Horses of that size into a 505. You would in a 510.

I won't get into a fight about this but towing that kind of weight with a Freelander is illegal thus would void your insurance (I have one and have towed with it so I'm not an anti Freelander person just stating facts). The max tow weight in the newer model is 2000KG (1800KG in the older one) thus perfectly safe and legal for one Horse but not 2. You are looking at about, minimum, 2300KG with Horses that size.

Thanks for all the advice guys - I did have major reservations about it but being the last onto the yard - albeit I've been there 2 years - they all started taking the p1ss when I said I didn't think he'd fit - and it is just a 505 cause I checked last night. I retaliated by saying their nancy freelander wouldn't tow me out of bed nevermind 2 horses (I have no feelings either way towards the freelander though my brother works for a breakdown company and it's highest on their list of what's unreliable). So end of the tale is that I'm not even going to attempt to get him in the trailer - YO can loan us the lorry.
