2 mares in foal need homes or will be destroyed Posted : 2008-04-20
Lincolnshire

2 mares in foal at a fattening farm in France need homes desperately or will probably be on next lorry to Italy to be killed for meat. It is VERY cheap to bring these poor horses to UK, so please please consider saving one. Please email me for more details. Thanks debbieatsalvation@hotmail.co.uk or text 07717 676 438 They and another couple (1 under a year old!) are very urgent!!

not THIS again......

go to many a sale in the UK and you can buy in-foal mares for £150-400 quid......

give it a rest....

I can see peoples reasons for saying this, however...

Does this then mean that we should not help people that live in complete poverty in third world countries, as we have poverty on our door step? Does this also mean that each country should not help one another but work as an individual without concern or feelings of remorse? Does this then show that the EU is in fact pointless, because after all we are only concerned for ourselves?

And if people are so keen on not importing horses but 'using' the ones in our own country, then surely importing foreign sport horses would also be against your morals? Or is the real reason that, it is easier to turn your back and ignore the problem than actively do something about it?

Perhaps rather than rescuing one or two horses, why not join the ILPH 'Voices for Horses' campaign, (not to stop horse slaughter, but to end the dreadful conditions of the journey)

Here here! Its very sad but these 2mares are a needle in the haystack - there are many many more like them transported and killed for meat every single day.

PLEASE
If you have the time and money to buy one of these..don't. get a one that is already in the UK.
The prices these french horses are fetching is outrageous and only makes the people selling them rich. SUPPORT THE ILPH IF YOU WANT TO HELP THE FRENCH HORSES.
Someone is earning a great living by preying on the english sentimentality.

Am aware that this is a horse forum but...

They are horses. Totally different to human suffering.

We dont eat people.
as long as the horses are killed/transported humanely i dont have a problem.

When will people understand that buying these horses actually encourages the trade. No market no trade. I agree we should be supporting the soceities who are fighting to ban transporting other then on the hoof. While people eat horse meat there will be a trade. And the ones trying to buy these & bring them back to the UK are pushing the prices up even more. You CAN NOT save enough of these animals to make it worth while, instead fight for the ban on exporting them alive.

since when has France been a "third world" country?

I have taken in 3 horses from France but it is certanly NOT cheap. We pulled out of the french rescue side of things as the prices weren't the advertised meat price, they were getting grossly inflated and it was agreed that we could do more with our funds helping horses in this country. Having said that I don't regret for one moment buying the french horses we have. It's a double edged sword in my opinion and I understand why people want o help but as someone else said it's a drop in the ocean, so long as people keep buying them the "farmers" or rather dealers will continue to provide them.

Supporting a ban on live export is the way forward and as JM07 can testify there are plenty of needy horses at sale yards around this country.

Doesn't it go even further than that though? While people own horses they will always need to be slaughtered at the end of their life. It's fair enough flogging a horse when you are done with it but at the end of the line when it isn't sellable it is likely to get shot.
