horses killed on road :-(

Later reports say the man has since died, I would think the arrest is the owner of the horses, it seems as if it is fly grazing and horses being loose that caused this tragic accident. Maybe a prosecution will follow and help prevent this happening again.

RIP innocent horses and the car driver.
 
Tragic- saw this earlier on an article about a crash on m6 near me where 3 kids and mum died.
A terrible thing to happen but the worst time of year, some people never made it to there destination for Christmas and others have empty seats at the table.

Been feeling sick about this all day. A friend told me her daughter was caught in the ensuing delays and had to pass the scene. I know that there are usually a number of coloured cobs grazing (tethered?) in a field beside the road in that area, so assume it involved some of them. so very sad, as someone else said, the victims, human and equine were innocent and their loss is tragic. The car driver who died was 23. So sad too about the tragedy on the M6.
 
This is also posted in News and one of the posters on there says the horses were out loose on the road on other occasions before this tragedy - so the owner cannot claim to be unaware the fencing was inadequate.

On that basis I think the charge should be manslaughter and not 'endangering road users'
 
I think the charge should be manslaughter, the driver has died since the arrest so it may be changed, a serious crackdown on this illegal grazing is needed before more of these accidents, I cannot imagine how a driver must feel coming across a road full of horses with no time to avoid hitting them:(

I'm inclined to disagree about manslaughter w/o knowing who hit what, lets wait for the full report, there must have been some element of driving too fast by someone for 4 vehicles to have been damaged, as well as for 3 out of 5-6 loose horses die. Having had to stop very suddenly on a motorway when the car in front hit someone, I found it incredibly annoying, having left enough room while driving, not talking on my mobile and paying enough attention to being able to safely stop without hitting anyone to find that my car was hit from behind and then the car behind that was hit by someone else much harder which shunted all the cars forward causing my car even more damage. Yet I still hadn't hit the car in front.

Ok to say let's wait for the full facts to other posters views - but not if you then go on to make more assumptions than they did......:-))))
 
I know of a horse killed on a road, wont say too much as it wasn't mine, but stolen by gypsies and then let go of on a road, and hit by a van :(
 
My old horse was hit by a car 10 years ago whilst we were out riding and I watched helplessly whilst he lay dying in the middle of the road. The car driver was prosecuted for driving without due care and attention and was fined £950 and got 5 points on his licence. We both could have died that day, but watching your horse die before your eyes is something that I will never forget. My heart goes out to the innocent horses and people who died and those who witnessed this terrible tragedy.
