Horses living in unmucked out stables??

Meowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Air it with someone ie her on the yard and get it sorted.

Regardless of what type of bed you use, it should be clean and dry, I LOVE deep litter beds, but jeez they should still be nice and dry for the horse, skip out and cover wet patches, easy! There problem solved!

Quals and years around horses mean nothing to me, I know a woman who has been around horses for 50 years - not allowed within 10 feet of mine, also know people with BHS stage 4 who aren't allowed near mine...[/QUOTE]

Well obviously you need to do some studying on horses and on this as it's not your horses that we are on about.

What is wrong with the people that aren't aloud near your horses? Do you not like the old fassioned way of dealing with horses and the correct way from BHS. Which everybody these days go by there rules.

To all the people that are confused with this situation the girl does not muck out the stable, fullstop. The horse is on a straw bed and eats the bedding.
I have confronted the girl who is ment to look after the horse about mucking it out but she just ignores me and sit on her arse all day long.
I have told the boss about the situation but he doesn't seem bothered at the moment as thing aren't going right.
It may be all well and good telling me to get a fork and wheelbarrow and muck it out myself. But i just about have enough time in the day to muck out the bosses horses and mine. Some days i may just have an hour to ride my horse. Also i very rarely have time to eat my dinner and have a drink!

You should tell her to get her act together and actually do somethink for once its not fair on the horse it didnt ask for her to be its owner. Poor horse

I willl have to disagree that the BHS way is THE correct way! There are many ways to do something.... I wish more people treated a horse as an individul rather than the "one cap fits all" approach but hey ho.

Amen to that.:)

Any way is the right way if it works for a particular horse.

I don't care whether the handler/owner whatever, is purple with green spots and looks like a tellytubby if something works, bits of paper mean nothing to me personally and it bugs the hell out of me to have the "Oh I have BHS How to put a halter on (a riding school dobbin) part 1,2 and 3" thing trotted out, as if that makes the holder better than everyone else. The ability to adapt to a situation impresses me far more.

Well, all you have to do now then is to pick up the phone to one of the welfare organisations.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

It seems like your the only person in this thread which cannot understand. I'm only a student so why are you trying to embarrass me?

I'm not trying to embarrass you - but I genuinly couldn't understand what your first post was saying.

Even a student can string a coherent sentance together, surely??

Anyway - as I said a little furthe up - all that needs to happen now is that a relevant welfare organisation is contacted. But of course, I should have remembered that this horse has an owner - so they should be contacted first, obviously.

1) Speak to the YO

2) If you see the girl speak to her or offer to help her muck out.

3) Drop a hint as to why the mare has "itchy feet". E.g. "Oh my horse used to do that when she got a bit of thrust, Hydrogen peroxide stopped it"

Ok, so we've established the horse isn't being mucked out..is it being fed,(aside from its bed) Turned out?
What are the future plans for the horse?

Oh and the RSPCA will do nothing as long as the horse has food & water.

Why do people keep on with this misconception?

They won't do anything as long as the horse is in resonable health and being fed & watered because by law they can't.

Look how long the Amersham ordeal went on for.

Also the RSPCA have no powers to enter a yard or propety without permission from the YO.
They have to involve the police.

Surely this issue can be sorted out within the yard itself without involving welfare organisations, I think they'd be better off dealing with the "hard core" stuff.
Before anybody jumps on me, I'm not saying this case is not important, I'm just suggesting people within the yard should perhaps try and communicate with each other on a face to face basis and try and sort it out rather than both come on this forum and have a pointless cyber conversation which, at the moment, doesn't seem to be helping the horses' situation....
Also, I'm always a bit suspicious of people claiming to have "no time" at all left in the day, but always seem to find time to sit behind the trusty keyboard.
Going to run for cover now!

I entirely agree with you. And this horse does have an owner.

Will be interesting to see if either poster on here who seems to be involved can get their act together....

Simple really.
Go and speak to the yard manager, it is their responsibility to have a word with the girl or contact the actual owner and inform them of the situation.

Call me cynical but I think both the original poster's actually do mean their horses (and the horse that is being looked after) do stand in shite without being mucked out every day but because of the shocked comments on here they are now back peddeling!!!!

Do you smell trolls too, or is it just me?

give that horse some fresh air.

i think this may be trolls but if not then what lazy barstewards who should not be around horses.

Well I'm competent enough to be trusted to work on yards with horses which collectively are worth well over £2million, so I must be doing something right...

Someone needs to lock said girl in said horse's stable (preferably with top door shut) so that she realises how unpleasant it is and not let her out until she requests a wheelbarrow and fork!

Re the definition of mucking out, I can't quote the BHS as I didn't go to british horsey school... i didn't even have riding lessons as a child but here goes.

Mucking out is taking all droppings and wet and soiled bedding out, giving it a damn good sweep before replacing bedding and topping up with fresh. this is generally done on a daily basis.

Skipping out is taking the drippings out, generally leaving the wet unless visible and generally done in betweeh full muck outs or if on a deep litter system.

Deep litering can be done on a semi basis - where wet is left in for up to a week or a permanent basis where it might only get mucked out fully once a year and horse is stood on a nice deep, DRY bed for the whole period.

Totaly agree i couldnt have put it better myself, Well done

Some of the grammar errors on the posts here make this thread quite difficult to follow - AmyMay is not the only one flummoxed here!

Not everybody goes by the 'BHS' rules, as anyone with their head screwed on properly, can see what a bunch of rubbish the majority of them are.
