At my yard, yes, most of them are wearing them now. We've got quite a lot of little flies and on muggy days like this, they're a right pain. Wasn't going to get one for my cob but he's started to get bugged by them so now he's in one too.
Yeah rosie gets a bit hot and bothered so I just use fly repellant.
I kind of feel like she has a rug on pretty much 24/7 through winter so think is nice to let her get a wee break from them..... but don't get me wrong if she was really bothered by flies and didn't mind the rug being on I would.
My cob doesn't have either on. Altough his forelock is down past his eyes now, so acts like a good fly mask He does get a little p***ed at them on his sheath so he has it painted with cream when v.sunny.
The old TB get's it bad on his eye's, but doesn't let you put a mask on or fringe ect and you can NOT put fly spray on (well you can if you feel like going to A&E) So he's just left without, and he has the worlds shortest forelock. It's not pulled just does not grow.
One of mine does - he had a sarcoid removed on his chest and found the flies were being attracted to the site, and want to ensure it heals up safely. He does not have the neck cover on and has it off overnight.
Don't like fly rugs as a general rule as always worry that the horses will get too hot, but do think they have a place for certain horses/circumstances.
Yep, my shetty started sweet itch last year, so he had a few weeks out of rugs after winter, then into his fly rug when he started getting bothered by the midges. All four wear fly masks through the day just because I hate seeing flies teeming around their eyes!
He does sweat in his fly rug, but better than scratching himself raw
