Horses living out- how often are yours checked?

visit twice a day. land owners often walk round the field so if there was an obvious issue they could call. sometimes can be seen from the road but there are trees making it not always possible. Don't leave fly masks on overnight. I visit more if riding/farrier/dentist etc and don't hesitate to pop down to the field at the drop of a hat if the weather suddenly changes for the worse. Another horse at home so can look at him out the windows to check on him. used to have all horses in one location at home or a 5mins walk down a track - much preferred it but circumstances changed. Hopefully one day I'll be able to have them all in one place at home again!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Currently I'm checking before and after work. It's a 10 minute leg-count and water check in the morning at 5am and a full feet, groom, token feed, possibly ride at 7pm on my way home from work.

It's the long periods of time between checks that I worry about- I know that 10 minutes after I've left they could do something silly and then it's more than 12 hours between checks during the day.

I do worry leaving the pony on restricted grazing all day.

When I don't have them, they are only checked once a day- if that- so I think I might be being slightly neurotic but it does seem most people do more than one check a day.

Mine live out 24/7 with permanent access to open stables (bar one pony who is now on a small paddock of her own as she's on a diet). Im very lucky that my field is right beside my house, I literally walk through my back garden to get to them so although some days if Im busy I might only properly see to them in the morning and evening, I can see them when I drive anywhere (they're along the roadside) or out in the garden etc. So I probably look at them even from a distance many times a day. If say, my horses were kept somewhere I couldnt see them from the house then yes I would check them as often as I could (ideally at least 3 times a day). If Im out, I actually like that mine are also along the roadside as neighbours would soon tell me if there were any issues with them. My neighbours are all brilliant for things like this.
