a completely non offense intended post, so please nobody take offence!
but i was wondering how different horses cope with living out? can all horses adapt or do some just need a stable? feet wise, yay or nay? can it affect them riding-wise etc? of course pictures of ponies that live out are welcome, in fact even pictures of ponies that live in are welcome! can you tell i love seeing pictures of horses?:D

There is quite a mixed bunch living out happily at my yard. YO tells me that in 25 years she's never known a horse not benefit from living out. Its the owners that have the problem, some owners come and plan to use the stables, but in practice, no horse ever needs come in overnight.
It does depend on the fields though, ours drain well in wet weather, are well sheltered and the horses have access to open barns but only use them in hot weather to escape the flies.
Riding and handling wise, they tend to be easy and less spooky all year round.

I have had horses living out for 8 yrs.

Toffee was much happier instantly I swear she just turned into a different pony when out 24/7. I hunted her from the field, PC'd and she was clipped didnt affect us.

Woody was a ex racer who I only ever had on full turnout, he had some conditioning cubes in the winter and that was about it. (had hay ad lib)

Winston was a nightmare always breaking fences etc but he didmt mind being in either.

Samba was fine living out but for some reason I think we get on better having the routine of coming in etc, she is a different pony since coming on livery.

Toffee is now 19yo and acting very old. I have been struggling with her weight but after she tried to climb out of the stable a couple weeks ago when I tried putting her in for the night, she wont be coming in if the weather gets bad, shes safer out.

My horses have always had a field shelter of one form or another.

Heres a few pics of them out
